I'm fairly new to TW. I was working on a project this morning. Then, after closing TW and then relaunching it, my latest project is now not showing up in TW12's Projects window, (accessed via the 'Projects' tab). Nor is my latest project and its edits appearing in the 'Recent Edits' window, accessed via the 'Welcome' tab. The only projects listed, are older ones. I have not made any changes to my system since my projects were showing up. Can anyone help?

Not sure why they've disappeared. There is an Open Project button on the Projects page. Click it, navigate to folder where the project was saved and select the .tracktion project file.

Thank you. I think I have found where my .tracktion files have been saved, but TW is not seeing my .tracktion file. I can see it in Windows Explorer, but cannot see it via TW's Open Project button. I can get to the folder but not the .traction file therein.operandx wrote: Thu Jun 29, 2023 7:23 pm Not sure why they've disappeared. There is an Open Project button on the Projects page. Probably best to do a search on your system for .tracktion files. Are you on Windows? Just search the C: drive for *.tracktion files. It'll bring up .tracktionedit files and others but its the .tracktion files that are the project files.

Yes, I did that, thanks... My .tracktion files all seem to be on my D: drive. I can find a .tracktion file on my D: drive that was saved earlier today. However, TW cannot see that file when I try to access it via the 'Open Project' button. Windows File Explorer sees it, but TW doesn't. The folder containg the file is listed in TW's inbuilt file explorer window (left pane under 'Projects' tab), but the folder grayed-out, and I can't access the file within that folder.operandx wrote: Thu Jun 29, 2023 7:53 pm Probably best to do a search on your system for .tracktion files. Dunno. You said you could see some older Projects on the project page, where were they saved, mouse on project name -> right click menu allows navigation to the folder to find. It's .tracktion not .traction WF wont recognise a file with suffix .traction. Unless you've been saving to removable media which isn't attached I'm stumped. Never had the problem personally. Sorry.

No worries; thanks for trying to help. My earlier projects, that TW can open, are saved in the same directory as the recent .tracktion file that TW cannot see or open. I ran Windows chkdsk on the hard drive and it found no errors. Hopefully someone can provide a clue.operandx wrote: Thu Jun 29, 2023 8:17 pm Dunno. You should be able to open the file directly from windows. Either double click the .tracktion file or right click and 'open with'. Usually projects grey out when the project folder gets moved and Waveform loses the path.

Thanks for the suggestion. I already tried double-clicking the file in Windows Explorer. It opens TW, but unfortunately the file is not loaded and cannot be accessed via "Open Project" button, either. Same thing, if select the file in Windows Explorer and try "open with".dysjoint wrote: Thu Jun 29, 2023 8:58 pm You should be able to open the file directly from windows. Was it MIDI, audio files, or a mix? Sometimes you can recover at least portions of work. MIDI tends to be all in one file; audio are separate .wav files in a folder, that if nothing else can be imported into another project.

Yeah, while Waveform sort of makes audio and MIDI look the same, they're really apples and oranges in the way they're handled. Audio tends to be large, so gets stored as external "file chunks", and MIDI is compact enough to keep directly in the master file. Separate files can be "handled" or recovered as files (although don't go playing around with them or you can be surprised! ).
MIDI and other data can be "seen" in the .trkedit (older versions) or .tracktionedit files in XML format, and in some cases if corrupted can be recovered. It looks like the .tracktion files are binary and probably not recoverable.

I strongly recommend opening a ticket with Tracktion support concerning this issue (https://tracktion.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new).
