Waves API stuff is great.musicproducerdee wrote: Wed Jun 28, 2023 10:10 pm I know I said that I wasn't gonna invest in Waves, however, I did end up getting the DBX 160. Man, that thing makes the drums punch hard. I also have the Arturia version (different models though), but I much prefer this one, at least on the drums. I might get the API series plugins next, starting with the 2500 Bus Compressor.
Waves already backtracking

I'm yet to try that. Will give it a demo later tonight. So far, I'm loving the DBX 160.LoveEnigma18 wrote: Sat Jul 01, 2023 2:39 pmWaves API stuff is great.musicproducerdee wrote: Wed Jun 28, 2023 10:10 pm I know I said that I wasn't gonna invest in Waves, however, I did end up getting the DBX 160. Could somebody update me please what is going on with Waves now. I have not followed this at all and haven't the time to recap. I'm going to use Waves no matter what anyway, cause I love some of the Waves plugins. So they went all subscription is that right? And then they reverted back to optional subscription? What's the current situation and what does the future hold? Will you be able to by plugins or just subscription?

Just because I’m going to use them anyway I can be still interested in knowing whether or not I will need to initiate a subscription in the future or can carry using them as I’ve been?escalona wrote: Sat Jul 01, 2023 4:34 pm "I'm going to use Waves no matter what anyway, cause I love some of the Waves plugins"

I don't hate them. I disagree with how they've shifted policy and I can definitely see them doing it again in the future. I am also and old fart who owns a ton of gear and I refuse to subscribe to my gear whether it's in the box or outside the box. The troubles I went through when I did buy new things from them were unnecessary and the only way out of that crap was to buy the same stuff all over again... I just won't go through it again. Obviously I like the results I get with their products or I wouldn't have done it. And if they do come up with something truly new I might buy it, but otherwise if I find myself needing or wanting something I'll look elsewhere first.revvy wrote: Wed Jun 28, 2023 7:09 amI also thought the same, but then couldn’t be bothered to keep the hatred going towards a music SW company.sacer wrote: Wed Jun 28, 2023 5:42 amI thought the same but the new waves key detector seems like I have to tryplexuss wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:54 pmThanks for the perspective and I have the same approach with Waves now. I WUPed everything before they went rogue just to get up to date and resolve some frustrations and issues. But I unsubscribed from all Waves marketing spam and I don't even look at anything they put out or sales etc. They are dead to me in terms of adding new tools to my kit.GMDuss wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 4:56 pm
EDIT: But I'll tell you what I definitely will NOT do. Unless they develop something earth-shattering, I will never buy from them again. I don't like being bitten by the same dog twice.
And I also like the look of the handily priced new key detector.

Nothing has changed as of now. It had, temporarily, but it's back to normal. You can still buy perpetual licenses and the WUP still exists. The plugins still work and will most probably continue to work. As for the future, while they might be more subscription focused, they're more likely to still offer perpetual licenses, based off their recent experience. They're releasing new plugins, which seem to be AI driven/focused. That's basically it for now.audiouser720 wrote: Sat Jul 01, 2023 5:01 pmJust because I’m going to use them anyway I can be still interested in knowing whether or not I will need to initiate a subscription in the future or can carry using them as I’ve been?escalona wrote: Sat Jul 01, 2023 4:34 pm "I'm going to use Waves no matter what anyway, cause I love some of the Waves plugins"

Yes, crystal balls. But several of us have stuck our necks out and said it’s pretty unlikely to change now.audiouser720 wrote: Sat Jul 01, 2023 5:01 pmJust because I’m going to use them anyway I can be still interested in knowing whether or not I will need to initiate a subscription in the future or can carry using them as I’ve been?![]()
Waves were humiliated. In our industry I cannot recall of another misstep so big, and so catastrophic for business that it got overturned in 3 days. Does anyone seriously think they’ll say “that was 6 months ago, come on let’s give it another go?”
“Gee, sticking my hand in boiling oil really hurt last time. But perhaps boiling oil is okay now?”
IMO broadly where we are is where we’ll stay. Subs plus perpetual.
