Hi, is there a way in Bitwig to Midi assign "select scene x"?
It's possible in Ableton, as described here: https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/artic ... l-MIDI-bus
I hope there is a way in Bitwig, too. But i didn't find it yet!
When selecting the Scene in Bitwigs Midi Mapping Mode, what gets assigned is "Launch scene".
EDIT: I'd also love to be able to midi-assign "select device", how to do that? (some posts below i posted some pictures)

Yep, in show mapping panel, click on the Scene 1 or 2 or 3 etc, and then select your midi note you want to map. Likewise for individual clips; just verified in BW5

Looks like it's only about launching a scene.iowastate89 wrote: Mon Jul 03, 2023 8:55 pm Yep, in show mapping panel, click on the Scene 1 or 2 or 3 etc, and then select your midi note you want to map. Likewise for individual clips; just verified in BW5

exactly. Midi mapping a scene only launches the scene.mevla wrote: Mon Jul 03, 2023 9:19 pmLooks like it's only about launching a scene.iowastate89 wrote: Mon Jul 03, 2023 8:55 pm Yep, in show mapping panel, click on the Scene 1 or 2 or 3 etc, and then select your midi note you want to map. Often times, the Midi mapping has several options to choose from. But not in this case. "Launch and Start Transport" is the only option, when a Scene gets Midi Mapped.

Why do you want to select a scene? I mean, what's there to do with it besides launch it?nowiamone wrote: Mon Jul 03, 2023 9:56 pmexactly. Having a liveset with 200+ Scenes. Makes life easier to be able to quickly navigate through songs.pdxindy wrote: Mon Jul 03, 2023 11:17 pm Why do you want to select a scene? I mean, what's there to do with it besides launch it?
DAW usage category = Live performance, DJ-ing.
So to be precise, i'm searching for a select-scene function which makes Bitwigs view focus that newly selected scene. It's a view-(and song)-navigation-thing.

Woops, i just realized, that "select device" isn't midi assignable, too?
I used that in my Ableton Livesets, it's highly practical, for example, if certain controller knobs are assigned to a Filter/EQ, and you want to visually see what you're doing within the device the second you turn the knobs.
The only thing assignable to be "selected" via Bitwigs Mapping Mode are Tracks. This can be visually differentiated when in Midi Mapping mode, as Tracks have a field for "selection" where the name is. This is exactly what is missing for Devices.

You can navigate by keys to any scene, make it the targeted scene so when you hit play it starts from that scene. Of course with 200 scenes, that is a lot of right arrow key strokes.nowiamone wrote: Tue Jul 04, 2023 12:07 amHaving a liveset with 200+ Scenes. I tried to get around that by making a track with only dummy clips on the slot numbers I wanted to jump to. But I could not find a key command to select the next slot to the right that has a clip. (I sent in a feature request for that).
Something like Scene Markers would be useful for that too.
Anyway, if you use one of those keyboard macro apps, where you record a bunch of keystrokes and turn that into a macro, that would work. You can reliably navigate by key commands to any scene you want and there is a key command to target the selected scene. At that point, when you hit play, it will launch that scene.

Thanks for the workaround-suggestion. Coming from Ableton, i would be very happy to not having to use any more keyboard-stroke-software (i used BOME midi translator to midi assign Ableton Keyboard shortcuts)
I think I'll have to write Bitwig about this - which is a pity, because as you know my feature request list is already quite huge
A typical DJ-ing workflow (playing through songs via scenes) can be seen here in simplified form, if you're interested.
There we can also see another missing Feature in Bitwig: Follow actions for Scenes.
This workflow is more of a "auto-DJ-ing" though. My wish for being able to select certain scenes comes from a more free-style approach, where you decide live on stage which song comes next, or even to remix certain parts of another song into the currently playing song!

Resurrecting this old thread. I found myself in a similar situation: I need to be able to select a specific scene, or a clip within a track, and not navigate endlessly with 'select next / previous'. I submitted a tech ticket describing my usecase and what I would find very convenient. One thing I would find useful is to move from track to track WITHOUT reverting to the 1st clip every time the targeted track is selected. It's like the action of selecting a track forgets the scene context and to me it is quite counter-intuitive.
