My approach too.foosnark wrote: Tue Jul 11, 2023 2:49 pm To me it makes just as much sense to have these in the rack as it does a filter, oscillator or modulation source. But it would make less sense for effects that you only intend to use in an end-of-chain way, so I don't tend toward reverbs in the rack (except the built-in reverb that Mimeophon and Beads can do, or psuedo-reverb created by diffuse delays/granulizing).
It's great that we all get to decide what's useful in our racks. For example, I have very few filters and the ones I do use aren't usually part of a typical subtractive patch. I have a bunch of effects modules and I often use them as part of the voice, not so much as an end of chain thing (I don't have any multi-effect modules). I think the first single module I bought after getting my old Doepfer system was a Tyme Sefari, so I guess it's always been part of the way I use my modular.
Some folks have a ton of oscillators and very few signal processors, some have just like a single voice and a bunch of sequencing and modulation sources. I've seen lots of folks who get started with out any signal generators, as they just want to process sound from their DAW or drum machines. I haven't found a way to speed-run the trial and error process of finding what works for me and I'm glad that there isn't like a right way to do it.
