At least with expensive stuff, made by a
craftsman, you can be reasonably sure of
QC, and if they fail at that, you can at least
scream about paying a lot for it. And about
how they need to fix it.
Anyway, i pretty much decided i didnt need it.
OOH, stainless frets make it really hard to fix problems. OTOH, when I go to the music shows in China, the frets almost always feel like coarse sandpaper and one of the handful of times where that wasn't the case was because the frets were stainless.pekbro wrote: Tue Jul 11, 2023 9:37 pm Tempted to get one of those Harly Bentons for $200, stainless frets, locking tuners, roasted maple.
In the least its very interesting that they are included on a $200 guitar, when SS frets addUncle E wrote: Thu Jul 13, 2023 12:46 amOOH, stainless frets make it really hard to fix problems. I recently refretted my Yamaha Pacifica rescue guitar with stainless frets. The usual, hardened steel files weren't having a great effect on the frets.Uncle E wrote: Thu Jul 13, 2023 12:46 am OOH, stainless frets make it really hard to fix problems. Not for the metel (wellll, I might do a leeeetle bit of chugging..), but to see what weirdy chords and tunings I can come up with (them 2 extra strings got to be good for the drones...). Getting a bonus at work on account of being one of the only people in the department to vaguely understand IT, so might get one of these cheapy G4M ones;

I wont touch a bottom of the barrel guitar no matter who makes it or the shill of the weeks endorsement. That being said I'm done buying guitars in brick and mortar shops. The last brick and mortar shop I went to regularly went out of business (the owner retired) and I could never find the models/brands I wanted because of how major brands shit on minor dealers. Joe friendly can't buy a Les Paul unless he buys ten and he has to pay more than GC for those ten that he can't distribute between multiple outlets.pekbro wrote: Wed Jul 12, 2023 11:29 pm Yea thats my biggest problem with cheaper guitars, i cant check them out before hand.
