Yea thats my biggest problem with cheaper guitars, i cant check them out before hand.
At least with expensive stuff, made by a
craftsman, you can be reasonably sure of
QC, and if they fail at that, you can at least
scream about paying a lot for it. And about
how they need to fix it.

Anyway, i pretty much decided i didnt need it.

OOH, stainless frets make it really hard to fix problems. OTOH, when I go to the music shows in China, the frets almost always feel like coarse sandpaper and one of the handful of times where that wasn't the case was because the frets were stainless.

In the least its very interesting that they are included on a $200 guitar, when SS frets add
$700 to a custom shop guitar. I get the quality of the work thing, but they need to make them a more affordable option i think.

Or even a mid range guitar...

*Maybe that was a $300 option, i know a re-fret with them will cost u $700.

I recently refretted my Yamaha Pacifica rescue guitar with stainless frets. The usual, hardened steel files weren't having a great effect on the frets.

I got 2 diamond fret crowning files Chris Alsop Guitar, these work amazingly, making a difficult job easy. His tools have a great user rating on Ebay. Some might not be the most aesthetic looking tools, but they work extremely well.

I keep thinking about getting an 8 string still. Not for the metel (wellll, I might do a leeeetle bit of chugging..), but to see what weirdy chords and tunings I can come up with (them 2 extra strings got to be good for the drones...). Getting a bonus at work on account of being one of the only people in the department to vaguely understand IT, so might get one of these cheapy G4M ones;

Plus the colour is marvellous.

The official description is 'slime green', but both of the above seem apt..

Built my first guitar from parts.

HZ Guitars alder body, lightly roasted maple and rosewood neck - not the body colour I wanted, I accepted the seller's lower watchlist offer. Had my heart set on Sonic Blue
Guyker vintage locking tuners these are impressive for the price, far superior than the no-name ones, gotta get some more for a TE-52
Vintage 65 Alnico pickups
CTS tone pots (no load mod)
Alpha 5 way switch and pull push pot (adds neck pickup)
Fender Vintage-Style Standard Series Tremolo Assembly
Graph Tech string tree (to be fitted)
Guitar Anatomy pick guard
Aluminum shielding/grounding plate
Tone cap 1
Tone cap 2
Total, below £300 and less than Squier's Classic Vibe Stratocasters.
£300 - £600 cheaper than a similar spec Fender

I wont touch a bottom of the barrel guitar no matter who makes it or the shill of the weeks endorsement. That being said I'm done buying guitars in brick and mortar shops. The last brick and mortar shop I went to regularly went out of business (the owner retired) and I could never find the models/brands I wanted because of how major brands shit on minor dealers. Joe friendly can't buy a Les Paul unless he buys ten and he has to pay more than GC for those ten that he can't distribute between multiple outlets.

Fortunate for me my brick and mortar guy still does tech out of his basement now. Less overhead and distractions trying to handle walk-in customers who just want to look.

If you are looking for cheap and quality... Yamaha though the tone will be lackluster
That being said on the moderately price scale Sire for the win.
The overall workmanship is comparable to a US made guitar if not better.

Yes the Sire Larry Carlton H7(330) is heavier than a a real 335 and slightly brighter. The L7(LP) is brighter than a Gibson But the rest of it is all there and or better. That's why I'm seriously considering a S7(hss strat) over mim, cic or Indonesia or for that matter an Ultra Luxe Strat Not that I can afford an ultra luxe

I buy almost all my gear at Sweetwater now.

If I didn't already have a Strat and Tele, I'd give Sire a shot. I have a MM bass, and it punches way above its price tag.
I gave up on the local shops here because they were run by oldskool con men, one in particular. Usually Thomann, but nobody in Europe slits their own throats like chains in the US do (did) to undercut their rivals. So, there's little price variation, and asking generally gives unsatisfactory results. I'm done for now with guitars, methinks. I have my teeth to cap, and 2 guitars waiting to be sold.

In 2020, I released my line of guitars called Jazzbirds. I made 100 and they sold out that year. This year, I released a new revision of that first model (with many improvements) and also 3 new configurations:
