I guess why it is so hard to give a really low score is due to the fact that in essence music are feelings, and hurting the feelings of others is always a big no no.empphryio wrote: Fri Jul 14, 2023 3:47 pm I do care about the reception. If I didn't I wouldn't bother posting it. Trick is to suddenly not care when the reception is bad. Predicting it ahead of time makes this easier but I doubt there's any way to consistently do this. Convincing yourself you don't care can be dangerous as it might mean losing touch with your actual feelings. Then you're suddenly overreacting to something else.
At least for me!
In defense of me getting low scores from others:
1. I hardly put in the actual effort I could, improvised from scratch mostly in one day. So FEEL free to give a low score, no hard FEELINGS
2. In a wider context I'm sure plenty here have experienced far worse things in life than getting a low score from making a track with a deadline.
Also a virtuoso in music does not impress me the slightest, for all I know the person could also be the biggest asshole of all time.
I also have no clear cut view of what is ”good” and ”bad” music, a simple house track with a nice groove can give me better feelings than some super fast progrock guitarist wanker.
Taste in music also changes all the time. So something that used to be great is maybe not so anymore and what one used to think was bland some years ago is all of a sudden great.
