Patch Bay

Waveform has two utilities: Midi Patch Bay and Patch Bay. And, to my shame, I don't understand how they work. As soon as I didn't try to make them work.... I understand HOW and WHY it should work, but I can't get these utilities to work at all. Maybe someone can explain and show how they work? Because these should be very good tools in theory.

From a really old video i watched on Tracktion, the guy was showing that the ( audio ) patch bay would automatically add inputs/outputs if the plugin next to it had extra inputs/outputs , but so far I'm unable to test this properly or know if it even works at all. I'll see if I can find a plugin with an extra input on my system and report back.
Skip to 5:27 the timestamp didn't seem to work here for some reason.
Is it just me or does this sound like Dan Worrall doing this video ?

Haha, Maybe it sounds like Dan Worrall with a cold, a long time ago.
Right I was just playing with patch bay trying options for the submix routing question, but I couldn't work it out. This has given me a clue on how it's supposed to work. I shall go experiment......
Edit. Still no idea.

Yeah really reminds me of even the way he articulates his words .
cool, let me know if you figure the plugin out
i have got as far as being able to see some extra outputs when I use some VST plugins with sidechain built in, but that's as far as I got.

Nah, I gave up, I also got some extra outputs showing with Reaktor, but that's it.
I can use a rack wrapper for that multi-in/out stuff anyway, so I don't think we're missing anything at all.

I'm guessing that when people hear "patch bay" they think of tasks that the Rack is meant to perform. The actual patch bay plugin is simpler and local in scope. The only time I have used the patch bay is to reverse left and right before a send reverb.
I put a patch bay between Kontakt (8-out) and The Glue (4 inputs, including sidechain) and the patch bay showed all outs and ins.

Surely there must be consensus by now...
