NI definitely had much much larger technical debt than U-He. There's not any doubt about that, when Urs only had Zebra 1 out, NI had Komplete 2. Without any doubt it was a massive effort to get their entire line to VST 3 and Apple Silicon, and they still haven't gotten resizable GUIs. Yes, some of this is because developers/companies make the choice to work on new products rather than fixing issues with existing code, and that's unfortunately the nature of capitalism, they need to bring in money, no one is going to be rushing to buy Reaktor because the GUI is now resizable. Point is it's probably not as much of a conscious decision as we would like to believe. I doubt they're rolling in money from upgrades right now, and that probably led to their decision not to hire Brian to fix Absynth.Opaque wrote: Thu Jul 20, 2023 1:14 pm True, but one has to do with the creative direction of the company and where their efforts are focused, and the other is a complaint regarding how it functions or the mistakes they do in the form of bugs, slow development, etc.
People are usually more understanding of the second one, as is the case with u-he, while there first one is a conscious and intentional decision by the company.
None of those things I love, but I haven't yet found a developer who does things entirely 100% how I would like it to happen. Recently AudioFinder has stagnated, for about two years. Prior to that the developer more or less had monthly builds, super reliable etc. Then last month he torched his support forum likely because it was filled with speculation about it being dead, and announced it's "in development". Ohm are AWOL, same more or less with Audio Ease, VSL etc.
I just think we (customers) hold NI up to a higher standard than other companies, and IMO the larger the company the more likely some key developer for an application bails and leaves behind insurmountable technical debt.
