Just one or two instances would bring most of the typical CPUs from that period to their knees, so trance producers gravitated toward synths that were easy on the CPU in order to layer up 15-20 tracks or more (e.g., Sylenth1, V-Station, Vanguard, Albino, etc.).
And massive was released in 2007, so very late for this time period. For what you state it couldn't compete with Sylenth1 which was quite light on CPU use.

Albino, Z3ta and Vanguard, were some of the most popular in the trance, psytrance and psyprog scenes at the time. There were even some presets that became overused, I remember one bass sound from Albino which became the default sound in Psyprog for years.

Reason was pretty popular as well, from what I recall, as an all-in-one instrument and/or rewired into other DAWs.

Yeah, that was pretty popular in the early 2000s as well. I had pretty much forgotten about it.

personally didn't own it (didn't even own a computer at this point) but a friend (dot-com millionaire lucky bastard) had a huge set up with various services and such he was offering.
in his downtime, he would make tracks on the computers.

was rubber duck another one? i only ask as while trying to remember rebirth, rubber duck kept coming up :hihi:

In general, I have a strong feeling we're getting closer and closer to people talking about vintage software.

Vintage software? You mean Native Instruments? Oooh! controversial comment!

Chameleon 5000 well there is a trip down memory lane. :tu:

I never got overly deep into it at the time as I was not regularly making music but it sounded like it had interesting potential, a polite filter maybe, harsh at high res if I recall. Hard to remember it well, lost that one when shifting from 32 to 64 bit if I recall correctly.

Reason had the NNXT and there were trance synth Refills (I think they call them). Wasn't Seer the people who put out that gigantic thing called Independence? Similar to Kontakt. I still have it on disc. Had good horns. Proteus VX came out in 2006 but it was buggy and arps never synced.
