I explained in the post above why the GPL is very unattractive for me due to the issues with the VST licensing. (The same issues probably exist for AudioUnits on OS-X.) Otherwise, I am not completely against the idea of making HourGlass v2 open source and even try to sell it at the same time. I really really would like HourGlass v2 to be able to be used as a (VST) plugin, as well for it to have plugin hosting, which already exists in v1. The Juce licensing model does not work well in this scenario, if Jules/Roli are not paid for the commercial license.asksol wrote:Can you not both sell it *and* release it as open source at the same time?
Yes, I would do it more or less like that, depending on the definition of "most of the work". Certainly I would be expecting to release a functional product as fast as possible, but not with all the bells and whistles HourGlass v1 currently has.asksol wrote:It may also be a good idea to finish most of the work on the product before starting the kickstarter (you don't need the commercial license to start this work). I'm sure people are more likely to pay for something they will receive imminently.
