I have a pair of KRK rokit 8's and a 10s2 subwoofer..... prosumer stuff, but it's nice. Room treatment should be your first concern, though, before good speakers.

I’ll just complicate things little further. I have a good amount of space. I’ve had everything from cheap jbls and Kalis, to barefoots, psi and dynaudio core 47s. Properly set up with sand in the stands and then I built custom stands and use room correction software etc.
in the end I found out that I actually prefer “wrong” set ups, like having the speakers close and on the desk and stuff like that.
If I was starting over I’d get kh80s or something with the matching sub and have the speakers sitting close to me.
But tbh I’ll probably never be completely composing and mixing on speakers, I spent too many years using only headphones and it’s just the way I feel most comfortable working, even though it has massive downsides which I’ve had to learn to overcome.
Even then it’s a struggle but it’s just a case of pick your poison.
Basically whatever you do it won’t be perfect, you just have ti find what works for you. Adams are good, Kalis are good. At the same time if you set them next to high end monitors you immediately hear how compromised they are, but it’s still up to you and how much work you put in to learning your speakers and room. There’s no silver bullet and I think you can produce good mixes with any reasonably designed monitor. Just have ti put the work in.
Probably the best mixes I ever did were on focals even though I think they are highly flawed speakers. Their newer models are better though.

The best mixes I ever did were on PMC's. They weren't even mine so the whole thing of "learn your monitors" didn't play into it, I simply sat down and heard everything, then consistently cranked out great mixes every time I was at that studio.Aiynzahev wrote: Sun Jul 23, 2023 4:09 am Probably the best mixes I ever did were on focals even though I think they are highly flawed speakers.

Which pmcs? Also if it was a studio was it acoustically treated? Very different from a home set up. You have room nodes and early reflections skewing everything so when you leave the studio the mix balance isn’t what you thought it was.Uncle E wrote: Sun Jul 23, 2023 5:33 amThe best mixes I ever did were on PMC's. They were the earlier versions of the twotwo.5’s. Yes, treated, although not far beyond the average home studio. I find that by monitoring quietly, you can avoid room nodes and early reflections to some degree. Using small speakers like the twotwo.5’s also helps.Aiynzahev wrote: Sun Jul 23, 2023 2:10 pm Which pmcs? Also if it was a studio was it acoustically treated? Very different from a home set up. KALI Monitors.
I bought the lp6 a few years back and they're still awesome.

If you looking for a 8 inch monitor, you should have a room treatment before, because the bass is going to be all over the place! But it is a nice monitor for sure.ATS wrote: Thu May 25, 2023 4:33 am I have a budget of up to 2K for a new 2.1 set up for mixing.
So far I found this which looks pretty good. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... -subwoofer
But any other suggestions or warnings against going with this?

Speaking from experience, it’s terrible when you need to get rid of acoustic panels. They’re hard to sell online because they’re too big to ship and they take up tons of space when you need to store them.
