Or, not-so-poor folk. I don't have any real intentions of buying one of these, but I wouldn't rule it out. It's small, cheap, simple, and sounds good - that's a winning combination IMO. I recently bought a TD-3 and, even though it's by far the cheapest synth I own, it sounds great, does one thing (i.e., 303 sound) very well, it's fun to use, and I just stick it in the drawer next to my desk when I'm not using it.

But, to your point, I'm guessing that many or most of us started with simple and cheap synths. When I first started (early 80s), we had nowhere near the number of choices that people have today for entry level synths. I think it's great that Behringer, Korg, etc. are making hardware accessible to so many people.

of course, he just seems to have an issue about hypothetical people he doesnt even know, who dont have the incomes needed for, well most things.
whereas i believe fun is therapeutic and therefore beneficial, to all.

Just don't expect sympathy if you're mismanaging your resources or throw that back at those who are managing better as somehow being privileged. That's just an excuse for not managing your resources well and playing the victim.
not sure what you are talking about here if im honest.
my resources are fine thank you very much :) so no, not playing the victim.
care to explain how im a victim? i actually do very well, i can afford things many cant and i am grateful this is the case, but it also doesnt stop me seeing that those in less than great circumstances, could indeed benefit, from buying a cheap shitty toy synth.
for themselves for example, a release from the stress of day to day life, just noodling on a synth, great for wellbeing (as are many other things admittedly)
or for their kids for xmas, if little timmy is begging for a synth, which do you think said parents are able to afford? or do you think their kids need to learn life is shit from an early age and no one cares?

or, as i mentioned on the previous page, i will happily grab a few, for a local group, that work with kids who come from homes with little chance of getting these things at home, but it gives them a few hours, twice a week, where they can forget the fact they dont get fed properly, or they sleep 3 to a bed, and better still (as ive seen with my own eyes, with my foster brother, as they take in kids with autism too) grow in confidence, to the point my shy little foster brother, now goes out to do an actual job, dealing with customers. something we never imagined he would be able to do, as he could barely hold a conversation with anyone outside the family.

so please, tell me again, why there is an issue, with poor folk having fun?
And don't believe a corporation is etching out a place in the market for you out of the goodness of their sympathetic hearts. Don't be that deluded.
where did anyone suggest they were?
you seem to be reading things that no one has written.
It's probably a fun little synth to toy around with though. Have fun.
not sure you even know what that means
There is nothing wrong with poor people having fun. Most of us are considered poor to another financial class. But there is no sympathy for anyone able bodied and minded capable of managing a job who is complaining they don't have money for entertainment. You handle your necessities first then look for entertainment.

We have a widespread issue in the Western world of people who have absolutely terrible ability to manage money, focusing more on entertainment and pleasure than the necessities that would help get them out of poverty.

Then they complain at people who have something, labeling them as privileged. It's a epithet based around jealousy for not being so impulsive, living within one's means, and planning for the future. I know soooo many of these people first hand.

But yeah back to the synth -- I'm sure it would be a great little fun toy to open the eyes and ears of someone young. But, on the other hand, if they have a 50 dollar smartphone they probably have access to a number of synths and drum machines already.

I'm guessing more of these will go to gadget geeks who just want to noodle with a sound toy. That seems to be the case with the Volcas and the like.
