I would say every DAW today is excellent. They are all amazingly capable these days. Every DAW has stuff to be excited about. I happen to be enthused about MPE and the collaboration between Bitwig and u-he to bring it to the next level with CLAP. That capability is a dream come true for me.
I agree, most of the DAWs nowadays are very capable.
The thing that confuses me is the implementation of Midi 2 (or whatever its name is). It supposed to have MPE right? I'm not hearing anything about it regarding its implementation in the future. I do think that MPE will expand in the future and it is the next big thing in music expression. I just hope there will be affordable midi keyboards that support it in the near future. I think I need to embrace it within my mind and try to imagine some practical use of it within the synths (Bitwig is a good step into that I believe).
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Logic is fine, $200 for daw and free updates, full of plugins, is a good deal.
Also works best with M1

Absolutely I'm a fan of both Bitwig and u-he... Not only is there nothing wrong with that, there's something right with that.

That sounds pretty smart...

Officially, major version updates are not included in the price. In reality, Logic receive what will be considered as major updates by most daws in minor versions.
Even Logic Pro X was renamed to Logic Pro in app store.
Non written agreement between Apple and the users seems to be that Logic is a one time payment. And this is how it works for more than 10 years now.

There's no such thing as major versions... (for a decade now). Some of the 10.x updates have been considerably bigger than other DAW's full paid updates.

yes, further software upgrades will be free.
the upgrade price will be in a new Mac though, which will be required every time Apple arbitrarily decides that the new upgrades won't work on your current system anymore, which means something around every 5 years or so.
The GAS is always greener on the other side!

I wouldn't be so sure on that, I can see it moving to a subscription only plan that includes FCP. I really hope I'm wrong though.

Got no problems with there subscription being an alternative option. But it seems that Apple really want to be selling us 'all-in' services.

That's really nice, Logic is really a cool, feature packed DAW, I didn't know it was also a cheap DAW...

Damn, wished my DAW would have only gotten free feature updates for the last 10 years. :)

Guess Apple has the luxury to do that, when they don't do much money with Logic anyway.

They have both Logic and Final Cut, that are industry standards, to driver their hardware sales. Buying new hardware is the upgrade fee.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

There are issues with VST3, at least the licensing issue.
CLAP is a much better choice.
The scene definitely needs an open and future proof plugin system.
So hopefully the scene will warmly welcome CLAP.
MuLab 9.2 will support CLAP.

That said, whether MuLab will support VST3 is still undecided atm.
I'll have another look at it soonish.

A quick check says a lot more than 5 years, current Monterey compatibility chart, the minimum OS requirement for Logic.

People refuse to believe that Apple can be more affordable than PC.
Macbook Air price is similar to other laptops, but have much more powerful hardware, better screen and battery efficiency.
Also, you get Logic for $200.
Macbooks became affordable since M1 was released…
