Online preset exchange seems somewhat broken

I have been trying to upload presets so that we can use them on another computer. For some reason only some of them are showing up on the other computer, but they seem to show up on my end.

I tried resetting my online exchange by deleting the ones I uploaded but apparently it wont replace ones you've manually deleted, can't find if this is a setting...

I feel there should also be a way to update uploaded presets. Most presets on online exchange don't use multiparamaters anyway. Sometimes I add them later cause it can be a lot of work, that side of things.

I feel the online exchange could use updating the most in order to make it more user-friendly.

Using online exchange for that is not really a good idea - it's a comunity feature. If you want to clone presets on a different computer, use Backup for example (in every preset window).

I am a big fan of the idea behind the Online Exchange; these plug-ins have so much depth/complexity that being able to download more presets could be very valuable. In the case of MPowerSynth it most definitely is, if you have MPowerSynth and haven't explored the presets from the Online Exchange you're missing out on hundreds of great patches.

The rest of the line....there's so much clutter left over from the "you have to upload a preset to be able to download the latest." Stuff that's merely a copy of a factory preset saved under a different name.

I'd really like to have a utility that could scan the presets for duplicates, that is ones that have exactly the same settings, but maybe different names.

It would be nice if the uploads go into a kind of a "holding area" and after a few reviews for quality by users.

You could default to "only download presets with 2.0 review score or better" and then let people give +1 and -1 reviews.

That way really great ones would show up reviewed higher and so on.

I love uploading previews but I'm sure that a quality system is needed if lots of people start uploading crap.

Folks who wanna see the whole pile of submissions could set their preference to "All".

I am seeing occasional failures when I try to submit that seem to be network or API (rest server) down issues.

I agree with a preset check made by Melda.

Online exchange should be made by good and useful presets for people, to avoid a huge ammount of junk uploaded because of trolls or maybe just someone who think it's his personal online preset vault, as someone who just like to upload useless stuff.

I wouldn't use a score system, i'd just let Melda to decide what's really useful and what's trash.

Unfortunately that is rather difficult to implement, we'll see in the future.

Right now my experience as it stands, is very good.

It's been mentioned before, I believe, that it might be useful to make users "sign" their preset submissions and to have a way to filter presets by user. A rating system seems like a good idea too.

I think the large number of "junk" submissions is from many years ago; at one point the Preset Exchange system required users to upload at least one preset every time they downloaded. That led to some users uploading junk just to be able to download.

Look in MRhythmizer, it suffered the most. All of those presets with a name followed by a letter of the alphabet, then same name, next letter of the alphabet....

Yes, I remember the discussion, and Vojtech was nice enough to open it up so newbies like me could download presets without trying to come up with my own.

A major "clean up" could start with removing all the user presets that have duplicate names to the factory presets. That's the first thing I do when I download the user presets.

The good thing about all the "junk" community presets is that when I started making my own for MSF a year or two ago, I decided not to add any that I didn't feel were of high caliber, that were experimental, that were variations of the same old presets (factory or community presets), etc.

Generally all of the "junk" community presets I listened to did not have any information about who created them and what they were intended to do (not even initials so the person who submitted them would know to remove them). I suspect many contributors added presets just to test out the process and then just forgot about them.
