Saturation, but it doesn't!

What I expect from a saturation plugin is to be able to increase perceived loudness and decreasing nominal loudness at the same time without wanting to have too much distortion.
I tried Kelvin, but Kelvin makes it even louder (nominal loudness) and some other known plugins,
this plugins might be nice as an effect,
but it's not for my purpose.
What's your xperience or recommendation ?

Well, I actually like the sound of a tiny bit of distortion on the saturation, but you can design your own shapes in some plugins, for example Blue Cat Audio's Destructor or MeldaProductions MSaturation and you can decide on the level of oversampling to help with smoothness.

I use it like that occasionally, just on the low end.DCrown wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2023 10:43 am What I expect from a saturation plugin is to be able to increase perceived loudness and decreasing nominal loudness at the same time...
Now that depends a lot, the other thing I use saturation for is intentional distortion

There is *no* way to increase perceived loudness while decreasing nominal loudness with saturation. The only way you can do this is if you EQ your track in a way that enhances the frequency ranges our ears are most sensitive in and cuts elsewhere.

Ok, I see, then 100+ videos on YouTube must be wrong. Or maybe you can just tame some peaks or whateverampetrosillo wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2023 12:46 pm There is *no* way to increase perceived loudness while decreasing nominal loudness with saturation. You've got a sine at 40hz, you add saturation, now you have energy at 120 and 200hz (and maybe other harmonics as well depending). This is likely more perceptible in the mix and can sound slightly louder even at the same total volume. Or you could EQ away some of the 40hz energy after saturation for that matter.ampetrosillo wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2023 12:46 pm There is *no* way to increase perceived loudness while decreasing nominal loudness with saturation.
This is easy enough to experiment with to hear and see it in action (particularly with something like MAGC that matches levels automatically).
I just picked up Saturn 2 a few days ago. Wavesfactory Spectre is also good, and I like NI Supercharger GT and Wavesfactory Cassette if I want to combine the saturation with something else as more of an effect.

Only a 100+ ? I could probably find a 100+ videos about audio on YT that are wrong in a couple of days, quickly scanning. These days one could find a 100+ videos on YT about almost any subject that are wrong (factually, not imo). A landmate here watches hundreds of *flat earth* videos. He also informed me recently that CA has the most for profit prisons (it has exactly 0, offtopic but FL has the most and TX is 2nd).DCrown wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2023 1:00 pmOk, I see, then 100+ videos on YouTube must be wrong. It's not allowed to give wrong information on YouTube, they have very strict rules.CrystalWizard wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2023 1:56 pmOnly a 100+ ? When you upload a video there is a verification process before it's accepted and released or video or even channel could be banned.

Wow, thanks for my first good lol of the day. Now that i'm "armed" with that tidbit of info i will go on YT and watch tons of videos relating to some of my serious health issues and i should be " all good" then. Not.DCrown wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2023 2:00 pmIt's not allowed to give wrong information on YouTube, they have very strict rules.CrystalWizard wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2023 1:56 pmOnly a 100+ ? I think that i'm fairly discerning of what i click on YT and i see dumb, factually incorrect, crap often. My usual response is to bounce out of YT as i understand the (faceless, monolithic, almighty) algorithm doesn't like channels when that happens. (?)
But, whatever works for you, go for it. While you are at it, be sure not to read anything (in print or internet) about audio because as we all know YT vids are a much more reliable source of info. Does this even need the /s?

i think you are mixing up some things here, you are indeed not allowed to post disinformation, but you can post incorrect information about audio.
they are not the same thing.

It's distortion. Saturation compresses and adds harmonics. How can you possibly add harmonics yet decrease nominal volume without turning it down? You've been watching some seriously fuckwit YT shit or you're smoking something very good. You do know there are a very large and diverse bunch of know-nothing YT numpties peddling complete garbage out there?
