One of the instruments went mute suddenly. After some time struggling, I found this line, sometimes black and sometimes blue:
Is that an automation track? But I don't think I added it. I added velocity changes to another track, not this one. OK, assuming I did by mistake, how do I remove it? The manual says there should plus (+) and minus (-) signs, but there is no minus sign anywhere.
I also don't understand why I can move it up and down (and restore sound) but not sideways so I can't control when it kicks in.
Well, I don't want it at all. What is it and how do I remove it?
Some control is out of my control

It's not automation; it's MIDI control data. It changes colour depending on whether or not it's selected. This data is composed of individual points. It doesn't work the same as automation, which has points but the data flows between points in straight lines or curves. The MIDI data is just points of data and more points will make step changes.
To get rid of it, you can do a few things. First, you can use the eraser tool. Second you can use the select tool and drag across all the points to select and then delete. Third, if you have the PRO version, you can open the MIDI event list to easily find that data and delete it.
If you are recording MIDI and fiddle with knobs on your MIDI keyboard, that data will be recorded. I also had an instance where an older MIDI keyboard was sending out random MIDI data even though no knobs were being fiddled with. I had to get a new one.

Surely there must be consensus by now...

OK. Done.
Selecting wasn't possible because the line seemed to extend into the infinite. I tried hard but never managed to find its end.
The eraser tool worked. It didn't the first time I tried, no idea why, I must have done something wrong.
But the line is gone now. Thank you!

Don't think of it as a line. It's a point. It exists at the very left. The line just shows that it doesn't have anything changing it from that point on.
Surely there must be consensus by now...
