Missing outputs in Linux

WF 12.5.5 on Linux and JACK.
I was using the onboard sound card but now I am testing a USB interface. Catia's patchbay tells me that I have more inputs and outputs now, it even identifies them as Waveform I/O but I can't see them inside Waveform. Why does this happen?

midi_playback - is that system named, or did you give it that name? It actually appears to be an audio output. USB-playback, maybe, would have been a better name?

System named. I didn't create it or name it.

The USB interface is turned off right now. I just launched WF and midi_playback is there. So it's not related to the USB interface.

Yes, you were right! Those are outputs 3 and 4. The "midi" word in the name totally threw me off. I renamed it accordingly.

Ok, so I do have four outputs and four inputs.

Now, it's not working quite the way I expected.

I configured one track to output to out 3+4 and it works. If I connect out 3+4 to the final output, I hear sound. But that is not what I want. I want out 3+4 to be a send channel.

So I configured another track to get signal from input 3+4, i.e. the return from the send. And I know it works because I see the meters moving. But I get no sound. If I enable recording on the second track, it will record the intended signal and I can playback the recording after the fact. But I would like to monitor it live with the entire song, all tracks combined. That is the part that is not working. I enable live monitoring, but it's not working.

Would you like to see it? Here is a video:

It might be you're doing something more involved and want to use send and returns or separate tracks, but there IS an "Insert Plugin" in Waveform that allows you to literally specify the send device and receive device as part of your signal flow - just as though it was a normal plugin, but processed externally.

Watch for latency, though ?
Also consider - do you feel you need to keep both raw and externally-processed versions?

OK, the Insert plugin does the job. I never knew it existed!

Not in a single track, horrible feedback, but it works well with two tracks like I already intended anyway.

The GUI is very unstable, BTW. It loses focus very easily and has to be reopened, but ok, it works.

Thank you.
