At the moment one can run PT on M1 only under Rosetta (their wording of marketing is unfortunate though because as far as we can see, it is not "native support" for Apple Silicon). We're just as puzzled as anyone that after three years now there is still just a transitional/preview AAX SDK that we can not use in our workflow - which runs on Apple Silicon.
What's worse is that the SDK is not backwards compatible, which poses even further problems.
Our efforts in switching our internal code base to CLAP is in part about making "what we do independent of what they do (or don't do)". In future we hope to be able to move on to new platforms and OSes quickly while keeping compatibility layers for AU/AAX/VST separate of our code base. This way we might even be able to support two separate AAX layers, one for people on older systems and one for people on the lastest and greatest.
Once the community has a CLAP-as-AAX layer, we'll be able to catch up. ATM we're in the final stages of developing a CLAP-as-VST3 layer.
It's looking good for a public beta soon. It still depends on what feedback we get for AAX from the Filterscape release, which is in public beta currently and which contains our implementation of AAX for Apple Silicon:
