I gotta say, it's really nice when a customer drops a message to tech support, just to say they like a product. Tech support folks are used to dealing with unhappy customers all the time so when a positive comment comes in, it gets passed around the office as if it's a geode on show and tell day! It makes everyone's day.

That's not a bad shout actually. If I get really good service I usually send a follow up email just to thank them even if they have closed the original ticket.

I had an LS1 for a while. To me Gliss feels a lot smoother and nicer overall.justin3am wrote: Thu Aug 10, 2023 7:32 pm I've really been missing my Soundmachines LS1 lately and totally forgot about the Gliss. I'd be interested to hear how y'all like it. The LS1 was so simple and immediate, hoping that Gliss is similar in that regard.
There are enough options that a cheat sheet is handy to have. But for common operations it's pretty easy to remember once you've gotten used to it.
There are a few main modes: Control, Record, Signal and Notes. The first one is just basic controller functionality, but you can choose slider+pressure, dual sliders, or dual pressure input modes. There are some latching options, and input/output voltage ranges can be set.
Record mode also uses the three input modes -- and the dual ones are cool because their timing and overwriting are independent. Loop mode is super easy to work with and expressive, and Trigger mode is for fun gestured envelopes and also really expressive. Clock, despite the confusing description in the manual, is basically just syncing both recording and playback to an external clock. Wavetable mode is not very good IMHO, and Waveshaper mode is cool (but trying to record a gesture when the position is determined by an input CV is confusing AF, it's best to record the gesture in another mode and then switch).
Signal mode is like a level meter, offset/attenuator, clipper, and envelope follower. Personally I prefer using dedicated utilities for those things plus the O'Tool+ for visual feedback.
Notes mode is like a mini-keyboard. It does MPE-style vibrato/gliding which is neat, but overall I'm unlikely to use this much. It also includes a sequencer mode that I am not even going to bother to learn.

elmyra 2 kit arrived. done a parts check, one single component missing but its only a nylon washer, so I can substitute. funnily enough i watched a construction video and the guy had that same part missing.
not a difficult build, since its just the hardware, all the electronics are SMD components already on the board, but its quite a lot of pots and switches compared to anything Ive done before.
and probably the most delicate build i'll have done, too, because of their proximity to those very very tiny SMD parts. will be taking it very slowly and carefully...

An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

Thanks for the review! Sounds useful. I'd probably only ever use the Control and Record modes. I'll take a closer look.foosnark wrote: Thu Aug 10, 2023 8:41 pmI had an LS1 for a while. To me Gliss feels a lot smoother and nicer overall.

Huh, I missed this one some how. Looks really cool. Post pics of your build if you get a chance.whyterabbyt wrote: Fri Aug 11, 2023 10:26 am elmyra 2 kit arrived. done a parts check, one single component missing but its only a nylon washer, so I can substitute. funnily enough i watched a construction video and the guy had that same part missing.

Really excited about this weird thing...

I've gotten some great sampler food already. It's surprisingly easy to get fairly normal sounds and rhythms going but it'll go to some very unusual places quickly. It has some things in common with the Lorre-Mill Double Knot and they play very well together.
