jamcat wrote: Sun Aug 13, 2023 8:22 pm There just isn’t enough pro audio available on Linux. Even if you’re willing to settle for one of the above DAWs, none of the plugins that matter are available. And Linux is a real pain in the arse anyways. It’s the OS for people who want to spend all their time tinkering with their OS. Just get a Mac instead and get on with making music.
I’m old and I’m comfortable with the old school ways. I could be completely satisfied with just TAL-Sampler and some good quality effects. Nevertheless, I have much, much more available to use. Be honest with yourself—are you really telling me that you would unable to comfortably write music with a handful of personally selected, high quality tools that cover your needs and you know very well? What more does a person need? I wasted two decades collecting VST plugins and patches and samples. I would spend my time fiddling around looking for inspiring presets, instead of working on songcraft. Many of us at KVR have wasted years doing this. Those of us who have learned from this now try to build a personalized tool kit that we know well and like, and focus on what’s important—the craft.

I know Linux very well and I have it personalized and configured precisely for my needs. It does everything I need very well, and I enjoy using it.

Given the choice, I’d rather have a deep papercut, soaked in lemon juice than use a Mac.

On Windows, I use Renoise as a sequencer and a techno-oriented program, Bitwig is my main piano row DAW, and Studio One Artist is for mixing and mastering. On iOS, I only use Nanostudio.
