Can someone explain the difference between .tracktion and .tracktionedit files? If I go in my Windows file manager and double click my latest, say, xyz.tracktion file, it opens the project in TW. If I double-click my latest xyz.tracktionedit file, it too, loads the same project. So what is the reason for having two different file types? I'm just trying to better understand TW's modus operandi. Thank you.

I've had a look and it appears to be a hierarchical thing. The .tracktionedit ones contain actual musical data whereas the .tracktion ones don't, and the latter ones appear to keep track of all the Edits in the project. I'd guess that also the .tracktion one contains info that applies to the project and isn't specific to any Edit.
That is a brief summary of what I found from a quick glance. I may investigate in more detail another time.

.tracktion is a Project file and is binary. .tracktionedit is the file for an individual Edit and is XML*
* The temporary version while in use is binary and so when something goes wrong you might end up with a file that isn't XML.

Surely there must be consensus by now...
