Which DAW on which OS?

There just isn’t enough pro audio available on Linux. Even if you’re willing to settle for one of the above DAWs, none of the plugins that matter are available. And Linux is a real pain in the arse anyways. It’s the OS for people who want to spend all their time tinkering with their OS. Just get a Mac instead and get on with making music.

I run fabfilter, Audiodamage, Uhe, Arturia, Eventide, XLN audio, 112dB,Valhalla, IK multimedia, Native Instruments, TAL togu plugs with great succes on Bitwig. But there is one thing support is none exsting for windows based plugins so everything is at own risk.

I was not able to run Arturia Pigments without a glitch on Windows. Now i do not care of running several instances.

I'm really well covered with the tools i have now, Linux is extremely efficient on the CPU.

It really amazes me that native windows plugins run better via wine then on windows. That proofs me that windows is not made for real time tasks it is simply trying to cover all sorts of users. And the majority of users are found in offices. Yeah windows is userfriendly but it focuses too much on that part it tries to be friends with everybody.

No idea with MAC's but that seems to be a great OS aswell being on the more expensive side though.

Agree with you on the steep learning curve with Linux based OS. But it will reward.

I mainly use Bitwig on Mac now but I also use it on Windows. I did already used Bitwig with u-he synths on Linux (Ubuntu) in the past without a problem.
I must be from the minority here as I don't really care which OS I use unless I have problems that not easy to solve. For example, poor Ableton Live performance on Windows that led me to uninstall it and use Bitwig instead. Cubase also has a better performance on Mac than on Windows.
For music production, I think Linux is more restricted than Windows and Mac. For me, I wouldn't use Linux without Bitwig! 3rd party synths (and tools) would be mainly from u-he, but there are some others. Anyway, I already have great synths from Korg and Arturia for example that are not natives to Linux. Can I install Linux now and make music without feeling very restricted? I think yes! I have Bitwig, Hive and my hardware MODX and DeepMind. I'm covered with everything I need, but do I need to do that? No! I already have two functional setups with Windows and Mac already, why I do need a third setup?

Still, we have the options (and we are very spoiled). We have much more options than thoughts and ideas! So, there is no shortage of tools that almost available to everyone. Shall we do something that has meaning? Not just random talk and noise!

I have a license and hate Waveform with a passion. Such a piece of crap DAW
If asked, the least thing I would ever recommend is that garbage can disguised as a music making tool.
Wish I could somehow get rid of it, but it's not possible. I like their Dawesome stuff quite a ton
