How can I make Bitwig 4.4 recognize Launchpad X as a controller?

My Launchpad X just arrived, and while Bitwig 5 supports it out of the box, Bitwig 4.4 does not recognize it at all. Not as generic device, not as a Mackie device, I just can't get it to play a note. It does work with standalone instruments, like Vital, immediately, without any additional config.

I don't want to use DrivenByMoss (yet), because it makes a complete mess of things and I can't figure it out. For now I just need to play notes in Launchpad X's scale mode, maybe setup a user configuration. But Bitwig 4 doesn't seem to recognize the Launchpad (with Jürgen's extension it does, but only then).

Side note: it's pretty much impossible to google the answer to my question, as all the hits point to DrivenByMoss, and I couldn't find a single explanation of how to get it working without it :-)

Use Bitwig 5

Or you could set up your own script with DBM Flexi

The flexibility of DrivenByMoss on the Launchpad X is out of this world, and taking the time to understand it, you will not regret it. The learning curve might be a bit steep, but so worth it.

As for running with without script, I am able to run it fine through the Generic MIDI and connecting to MIDIIN2. IIRC LPX MIDI is used for controlling. You can connect it through the Controller as well, but there is nothing to control, unless you start messing with Novation Components and define a set of CC to control things in Bitwig with a custom map in Novation Components, if you know what I mean.
