Waveform 12.5 Free: Whole drum sample not being played

Hi everybody,

When I first open up a project the entirety of each drum sample is played when triggered in the Micro Drum Sampler by a note in a Step Clip. If I go to the Micro Drum Sampler and change the set of samples that are being used, the playing of all samples after that change are then truncated so the amount of the sample that is played is equal to the duration of the play-head passing through the Step Clip note / block.

This is very noticeable when a sample has reverb integrated into the audio, and the whole sample has to be played in length to hear and get the full feel of the reverb.

Even if I just cycle through the included sets without even doing anything else . . .
'Micro 808' to 'Micro 909' to 'Metronome' then back to 'Micro 808'
. . . the samples are then played truncated to the length of the Step Clip blocks.

I discovered this by loading up the EDM template and messing around with the demo tune that automatically loads up with it.

Anybody know what's going on and how to avoid this happening? How do I make sure the whole sample is played and heard when triggered by a block in the step clip?

Thanks in advance for any time and thought you devote towards my little problem.

Open Micro Drum Sampler, click one of the pads/samples that you think are getting "choked" and look at the big graphic wave representation of the sound on the right side. Click the pad to play it. Does it play all the way?

Look for two tall vertical blue lines in the wave representation, one on each end. Are they both poisitioned at the extremes, i.e. far left and far right? If not, drag the rightmost one to the right end.

Below the wave representation pane there is a hamburger menu (three short horizontal lines next to an arrow). Click it, select "Choke group" and make sure the "---" option (none) is selected. One may want to select a group, but in your case it seems that you want none.

Thanks for your help Imv.

'Does it play all the way?'
Upon first loading up the project - Yes
After cycling through the different sample sets - No

Are [the] two tall vertical blue lines positioned at the extremes?' - Yes

The choke group is set at '---', and I think I most likely want it set like this which I assume is the default.

I think I might make a video that shows exactly what is going on.

The presets for the Micro Drum Sampler are broken. Until TSC fixes them I recommend making your own. If you want to use 808 and 909 presets you can find the samples used and make your own versions of those presets.

I really wish they would fix this because it comes up a fair amount, but not so often that I can easily find my last post that includes the location of the samples. And Waveform has at least four locations that it stores things. I just tried searching for them and failed even though I've done this like 10 times before and I'm just so tired of this. I'm no longer going to recommend that people re-create the presets using those samples. Just find some drum samples online and make your own presets.

The preset have samples in ADSR mode, which means they only play for as long as you're holding down the key. They should be in One-shot mode, but that's not something you can set in the Micro Drum Sampler. The somewhat good news is that it's the default mode for samples that you add to the pads yourself. So, make your own presets because they will work better.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Ah, that's why I didn't reproduce his problem at first. I had tried with a couple of samples of my own. Now I just tried it with the bundled 808 and 909 presets and yes, I can reproduce the problem and can't find a way to override it. No wonder he was stuck in it.

You know what, I'm going to give you (not you, pough, I'm talking to the original poster now :) ) an even better piece of advice: forget Micro Drum Sampler. Use an external plugin. I can really recommend three: Sitala, Poise and Shortcircuit. Sitala is very simple and easy to use (very similar to Micro Drum Sampler), Poise has more features including overlaying samples, and Shortcircuit is like One Sampler Plugin To Rule Them All. It's really the only one I use now, but you really should try Sitala and Poise. Every one of them allows you to build and save kits with your own samples and reuse them in multiple projects. You will be happier.

Yeah, Micro Drum Sampler would be a perfectly cromulent drum machine if it worked, but it doesn't seem to work very well. I just tried making my own preset in it and the behaviour was odd. It keeps switching to the B pads for no apparent reason and asking me if I want to copy the sample into the project folder. Except when it doesn't do those things and surprises me by working as expected.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Oh brilliant, so it wasn't me being a blind dope. Thanks for the advice, I'll do this.

Sorry Imv, I could have mentioned that too, but I couldn't imagine that that would have anything to do with the problem.

Thanks Imv. I'll definitely check them out in good time.
