Its been redone in soundcollider, javascript, all sorts. Moorer redid it himself, as per the cdm link above.

Manipulating the sound of a cello as a base, Moorer wrote a “score” that consisted of 20,000 lines of computer code, which then randomly spit out a new sound every time the program was run.

Lucasfilm lost the original recording of the sound. Asked to re-create the noise, Moorer quickly ran into difficulties. Because a computer program randomly generated the original Deep Note, there was no way to reproduce it exactly. “They kept complaining it didn’t sound the same,” Moorer said.
Luckily, the THX Deep Note’s original recording eventually turned back up,

In the CDM article he says the score and sound files are about 300 lines each, it only felt like 20k. I was wondering! Even my code isn't that prolix!

It does. It would take days to go through that much code. I miss the THX sound before a movie. Quite something on those theater sound systems.

Is there some specific reason to do it using Pure Data?
You might be able to do it more easily in some synth or sampler, like Kontakt.
