Speaking of Audiorealism, can Acid V play regular MIDI notes sent to it like any other normal synth, or does it only play internal patterns that are triggered by a MIDI event? As far as I can tell, that seems to be how ABL works, which makes it even more annoying than it needs to be.
Wrong , abl also accepts midi notes , in set up view enable ‘note mode ‘

Edit: vulpes 777 beat me to it
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

I think the square wave on Acid V has a bit more beef and sounds different in character. Below is a comparison with settings matched as best as I could. First 16 beats is Acid V, then Phoscyon 2, repeated.

Keep in mind the Arturia synth has a bass boost feature. Its in the advanced settings, in the "slide out PCB" area, with the small tweakable pots. If you are going for original sound, I think you'd want the bass boost at 0.

I am absolutely biased, and in fact I might have not set up the 303 and Acid V exactly the same way, it wasn't really a planned video -- just a spur in the moment thing.

In any case I generally like Arturia's emulations, their DSP engineers are top notch. But Roland emulation is a particular area I've focused on for some 20+ years, with many hundreds of filter and VCO models and I'm quite tuned to those in products that aim to emulate Roland stuff (including Aira or Roland Cloud).

I think it's totally fine to like and produce tracks with whatever products people like, but as far as pushing the envelope of authenticity or emulation quality I'm not so sure this is it.

Comparing Acid V to ABL3, I think they sound very different (and the parameter ranges/settings vary massively). I don't know which one is closer to the real thing, but, I had a bit more fun with Acid V out of the box, I must say. That said, like with all 303 emulations, I kind of lose motivation after 15 minutes, with such limited synths. Just a personal, subjective thing, of course.

It doesn't show the pattern name in the display, and you can't just load a bank and scroll through them like you'd expect, you have to open an explorer window and load individual patterns into blank slots and only then can you scroll through them. Otherwise you have to click the interface and select from a list which disappears once clicked, and if you do it that way there's no way to see which pattern is loaded as there's no indication on the list.
Have you checked the latest version? There it will remember what pattern/patch you lastly selected and highlight that in the file browser. We're also planning to do a live preview of the pattern so you can hear it playing without exiting out of the file browser. But yes, ABL3 currently doesn't display the pattern name in the patch display, though that is something we could add.

OK. Please do a JX-8P emulation.

Maybe just feed Acid V's MIDI into ABL3 if you have it, and get the best of both worlds. I actually prefer doing this in other soft synths, I'm not that interested in the original 303 sound.

Acid V likely will be included in Arturia's V Collection X.
