Cannot change the volume of tracks, using the default Volume & Pan plugin...

For some reason, the default volume & pan plugin (as applied automatically to all new tracks) doesn't respond to my attempted adjustments. Instead, I have to change the gain level in clip properties. Can anyone tell me why? Thank you.

It will not respond if you have an automation curve active. That's the only reason I can think of.
Edit: or a midi controller mapped to that parameter that conflicts any on screen adjustments, possibly.

Also never met such errors in TW. As @dysjoint says, this is possible due to automation. Maybe you once had automation recording enabled. If it's about automation, then if you move the curve, in most cases, in the future, you can change the automated parameters, both with the help of the drawn curve itself, and with the help of the controller in the plugin (there will be no blocking, the blocking will be reset). You can see all the automated parameters through the menu, pointing the cursor at the plugin and opening me with the right mouse button, or using "A" or "+", transferring them to the plugin automated parameters are colored green. Just play around with these settings.

Thank you. That was almost certainly the problem. Somehow, a couple of my tracks ended up with volume automation. I'm baffled as to how it happened, as I have never intentionally done any automation in this project!dysjoint wrote: Mon Jul 03, 2023 3:35 pm It will not respond if you have an automation curve active. If you accidentally turn on Automation Write, (or accidently hit the keyboard shortcut for it) then every adjustment you make to any parameter becomes an automation curve. I've done it loads in the past lol.

Yes indeed. I've now deleted the Y shortcut key, so that I'm less likely to do it again!dysjoint wrote: Tue Jul 04, 2023 9:01 pm If you accidentally turn on Automation Write, (or accidently hit the keyboard shortcut for it) then every adjustment you make to any parameter becomes an automation curve. I've done it myself too. I accidentally turned it on while mixing. It wrote tens of automations, I had to remove.Ally007 wrote: Tue Jul 18, 2023 6:42 pmYes indeed. It's still happening to me, regularly; the automation button starts blinking for no apparent reason; so then, I have to bring up the automation curve and delete all points. Is there a way to block a track from having automation applied? If so, that would be really useful (for me, at least)!UnionS8 wrote: Wed Jul 19, 2023 9:01 amI've done it myself too. Some people mention deleting the automation keyboard shortcuts helps. Fortunately Waveform's shortcuts menu is one of the best I know, so it's matter of seconds.

Agreed, especially with the search function. Customising keyboard shortcuts to your own workflow is so easy.UnionS8 wrote: Tue Aug 01, 2023 8:07 am Some people mention deleting the automation keyboard shortcuts helps. I'm still trying to understand why track automation starts up on it's own, without me pressing the automation button. I've noticed that it usually happens when I have an equalizer or compressor plugin loaded. Is there no way to disable the automation feature altogether? I hardly ever need to automate anything, so I would absolutely love to get rid of it!

There are two automation buttons. I'm guessing you're talking about the automation write button - the red one. There is also the green one, which when toggled will result in automation being ignored.
But you really need to work out why automation write keeps getting turned on. That's not normal. It should only be getting toggled using the hotkey or actually pressing it.

Surely there must be consensus by now...

Go to the keyboard shortcuts page in settings. In the top left search bar type in automation, it should bring up relevant hot keys and assignments, you can check if anything is assigned that you are unaware of.

I had similar problem after installing 12... something. I thought it was my fault, but now it seems it's a bug. But I can't it replicate it anymore.

Many thanks for the tip, pough! I hadn't payed much attention to the green button until you mentioned it. I must try that!pough wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2023 7:27 pm There are two automation buttons. It seems that for me, automation turns itself on whenever I change any of a track's sound characteristics while the track is playing back. If I stop the playback and then change a setting (such as volume), it doesn't happen. Hopefully the green button will end this problem.
Thanks also to the other responders.
