As I mentioned above, though, I can assure you that it's just the 1% in the bubble which will not upgrade for that reason. So, don't hold your breath. You might suffocate.
People seems to like to be pushed around by these Software companies these days and let them do what they want while they throw money at them.

... or they simply put their focus on other things, when all their software was ported to the newer format anyway.D-Fusion wrote: Wed Sep 13, 2023 12:02 pmI know.chk071 wrote: Wed Sep 13, 2023 11:57 am Exactly.

The least of my plugins don't come with a VST3 version by now. Merely a handful, I think. And, those are plugins I can easily live without.
The only ones I really mind are arpeggiator plugins, which don't have their full functionality in the VST3 version. And, Steinberg doesn't really have a plan for replacing those either, as the guy who developed VST3 always argued that the DAW has to provide MIDI plugins, and, most DAW's arpeggiators are very poor in terms of features, compared to some of the better arpeggiator plugins out there.

There are a few terrible companies (that's all you can really call them these days) who have expensive plug ins that have not made them VST3 compliant. I am boycotting those companies who are still in business from this moment onwards. It is especially annoying when they make some of their cheap line VST3 but not their more expensive/exclusive plug ins.chk071 wrote: Wed Sep 13, 2023 10:39 am Yeah, not only do many plugins host other plugins, but, some plugins are also only wrapped versions of other formats as well. So, I don't think there's a problem with doing wrappers.
The question is, who needs them? I would guess that 99% of the people out there don't care if Steinberg drops VST2, because all their plugins come in VST3 versions as well by now. The problems are always only in the bubble. The KVR Audio bubble, or, generally, in more tech savvy forum bubbles. Steinberg will surely know whether or not they can drop VST2, and still sell their DAW's. It's naive to believe that they didn't consider this.
Be very aware of any new purchase you make cause VST3 is not a given.

I wouldn't hold my breath re synths. Cubase has been the worst IMO, though a very capable set of FX. I don't think I've ever seriously used any Cubase synths except Halion and Groove Agent (both very good). That granular thing in current versions is utterly useless imo, very powerful but pointless. Not one single provided sound does anything for me, and I'm not going to spend time learning a synth that sounds so bad at first and second listen. Retrologue is OK but one of blandest VAs around with no filter character at all. The synths before this lot were even worse (so bad I expunged them from memory) they seemed to do a big bright twang and that was it...was it Spectre or somesuch? Strange how GA and Halion are so good and the others so bad.discogsaddict wrote: Wed Sep 13, 2023 6:10 am Maybe they'll add a new instrument this time. They removed a few old ones last time. Wavetable perhaps
They keep adding effects which are popular and exist with other brands.
Logic clip distortion - distroyer
Cableguys shaperbox - fx modulator
Ott - squasher
Pro q - frequency
I'm sure there are others..
Maybe this time it'll be some kind of spectral processor?
I'm happy with 12 and use it every day. But can't usually hold out long after a new update![]()
But yeah their FX get better and better. If I had to use only Cubase FX I could be happy with it.

I've been experimenting with making my own wavetables for the last year and I must say the edgy wubwub-wakka-wakka-trend have given wavetables a really bad rep. I have never been a fan of wavetable synths until I started making my own.kritikon wrote: Wed Sep 13, 2023 9:34 pm Hope they don't add wavetable - I don't like the character of any I've heard. It's a trend that can happily die IMO.

Haven't seen wavetables in Cubase Halion. I might just have missed it, I suppose. Mostly I tweak presets in it rather than create from scratch, so it follows that I wouldn't play with presets I don't like the sound of...which would be wavetable ones
self-fulfilling prophecy, I guess.
I liked Vital initially, especially the FX such as formant filters. But take off the FX and it leaves me cold mostly - some good sounds but a really small sweetspot. I remember decades ago I had the chance to get my hands on an original PPG...didn't like it within 5 minutes, sadly.

Steinberg always allows users to have several versions installed next to each other. So simply keep your C12 or any older version installed and you can load your old projects.Sahul wrote: Wed Sep 13, 2023 11:04 am I guess it's mainly a question of preserving compatibility with old projects. In my opinion, that's what scares the most. Because the truth is that not every developer was able to fulfill a clean transition to VST3. In many cases, VST IDs were changed from VST2 to VST3, so you simply can't remove the VST2s and hope that the corresponding VST3 versions are going to replace them cleanly.
What I mean is that the problem is more complex than simply some random guys wanting to continue using one or two VST2 plugins that don't have a VST3 version.
And when migrating to a new system you can always install older versions. Buying C13 means that you also own previous versions.
But yeah, unfortunately many devs made a mess of the transition. But this ain't new ; try loading projects that are 10 years old and many vst2 plugins won't load or recall properly either, and that's just because of minor updates and/or upgrades that will break backwards capability. So in order to maintain full backwards capability you also need to have all older versions of plugins installed, which is completely impossible in most cases.
The best solution to this problem will always be to commit to audio. And luckily, Cubase makes it very easy for us users to do this.
The loudness war is over, loudness has won

Wonder if it will be able to display polyphonic MPE pitch bend in the key editor---the current system (having to click on the note to see Note Expression, which then doesn't display it in semitones) is barely usable garbage. They should implement it as in Bitwig, with the ability to superimpose the pitch bend curve on the note in % of a semitone.
I wish they wouldn't bother adding mediocre new mixing plugins. They're just crap that wastes disk space.
