Yes, the rack system they implemented on the instrument is the best.
You can search for the preset of each module, and you can also search for new presets for the Analog Lab.
I think the preset browser they have is the best, so I hope FXLab comes out.

I don't want the volume and harmonic distortion decoupled. I want it to behave exactly like a preamp without any guesswork.
I am always afraid that less experienced folks read your hogwash here and it appears to make sense to them - which it doesn't.

It's really all mind-boggling nonsense. The way you write it it seems like there was this or that correct, planned and official gain relation between different devices - which there isn't.

Gain-staging between individual devices was always highly arbitrary and engineers had to be extra cautious to have adequate gain-staging especially since they often a) mixed it down and b) printed it on tape like that.

(As in the Dark Side of the Moon example you totally didn't get in the other thread, where a substantial number of drum-miks was mixed down and went to only four tracks of tape.)

It worked because totally unlike you the engineers a) knew what they were doing b) could rely on their ears, which is why it wasn't "guesswork" for them. That you call having to manually gain-stage - which is much much easier in a DAW than it was way back - "guesswork" is merely an admission of your own incompetence.

What's your favourites in the collection? The filters?
no, the distortions and that reverb intensiti or something, it sounds delicious :?

There's no filter for my FAP.

They’re all excellent. I guess it depends on what you’re after. I’d recommend loading them up and kicking the tires a bit.

I think that would be nice, but I wonder if it could be done and not compromise accuracy and quality and have a reasonable CPU load. If you listen to the modules like the Guitar Rig’s RE-201, it’s not nearly as good as Delay Tape-201.

In general, gain compensation sometimes is a bit tricky, it may be a little off with certain material; but I strongly prefer it having it turned on by default or even “backed into the dsp” when working with a software in a daw, because I can’t control more than a parameter at the same time with a mouse, so lack of agc means a lot of wrist moves between two controls in order to compensate manually. With hardware, I can grab the input knob with one hand and the output with the other one at the same time… in my opinion, agc is a matter of software usability. I don’t mind applying some minor output gain compensation manually, but I don’t want my levels to go all over the place (even for a second) only because I can control only one parameter at once with a mouse.

Just my 2 cents.

Every preamp plugin I'm using is followed by a tape machine plugin, sometimes with a compressor in between. So as I'm turning the preamp gain up, the tape/compression after it should be working harder (which is my goal). But what I also want is a correlating increase in preamp distortion to reflect the preamp drive. So if I'm forced to work with AGC I have to guess how much that would be, and I have to control two separate controls that naturally should be only one. So what works best for me is the exact opposite of what works best for you, but for the same reason.

I absolutely love Arturia. The only thing I can't like are their delays, mostly because I can't get any of them to sound good.
Mello-fi Tape is great.

Some nice plugins, but wouldn't put them amongst the best. Loading times are nerving for me, Waves, Oxford Sonnox, Fabfilter, Eventide are better for fast and good results imo

I want it too. Will grab it next time it's on sale.
Yeah I've been eyeing this up. Does it have a usual time of year that its on sale?

I got this for 99 Euro. It is really a good package. You may not find yourself using all those plugins in the pack immediately. But later you will a use to most of them.
