What saved me when this happened (and I don’t do this consistently) is that I used to keep notes in the host about a specific patch used, so I could replace it with a new version if needed. Even knowing it saved me before, I’m less likely to do that now for purely lazy reasons.
If you use Cubendo (Komplete Kontrol does it too), is remove the older version of Kontakt from your hard drive (well the plugin anyway (you can test it if you want, just move it to the desktop out of the vst/vst3/au).. Assuming you have Kontakt 7, it will replace the instances of the older ones.

This is totally crazy... I have k7 but I am a bit skeptical that my projects with k6 will be able to load the updated ethereal earth ( to mention one of the updated libraries)... I am afraid to test because I need to work on projects with k6... And I have tweaked the sound, they are not vanilla presets any more...

Btw I use reaper...

NA give me a warning just now when I tried to update my four updates that it showed me after reading this thread (said something about making sure I have the latest Kontakt and Reaktor I believe).
It didn't give you a warning?

Nice surprise. They will probably say you can just load them via free Kontakt 7 player. Otherwise they would need to roll the updates back.

I believe I read if you email support they will give you access to the older versions again, though I definitely think NA should have that ability built into it.

Yes you could use k7 player, not an option when you have projects with k6 and sounds tweaked ....

Evil Dragon both uses Reaper and is connected to NI, hopefully he will see this thread and reassure you.

Yup, I just hope they make nks2 versions compatible with k6 or they release new versions that can coexist side by side with the old ones.

It's pretty f**ked if NI updated the libraries in such a way that older projects can't open them at all. That would really f**k over anyone who didn't render their projects to audio, assuming that as long as they had the old Kontakt installed and the library installed, that they would still work forever. Which is a totally reasonable assumption.

That would be a complete a f**k you to their customers.

To be honest, I am not sure if one chooses not to update their versions (for whatever reasons) why you would install the updated contents.

Unless that is not what happens..
You know we test these things right :)
Though like I said, I only test in Cubendo.

What I know has been an issue is if the developer changes even the sample names and organisation of the samples (at which point you definitely need to keep the old samples and layout handy)

Since they added another discrete plugin to Kontakt (aka Kontakt 6) called Kontakt 7, without any tool to replace those instances in DAWs while maintaining plugin data, this is getting really annoying.

But Cubendo and Komplete Kontrol does... hopefully the other DAWS will eventually.
Logic use to, but apparently they haven't in awhile.
