Custom Track Colors

I don't see a way to set custom track colors but I've missed things before so maybe I'm missing this feature as well.

As far as I can see we have a choice of 18 and about 15 of those I would never use.

I don't like gaudy track colors and prefer a couple of simple muted colors.

So am I (once again) missing something obvious?

I'm really starting to love Waveform so this is a relatively minor issue but I would like to be able to set the RGB values of track colors. :tu:

You can't edit those values individually, but if you open the Colour Scheme editor [British spelling...] from the Appearance page on the Settings tab, the Saturation, Highlights and Vividness sliders do alter those colors to some degree, so you should be able to tone them down somewhat using those.

Thanks, I've already made my own custom color scheme and the vividness parameter doesn't do what I want.

If it's not possible to have custom track colors I'll make that a feature request. It's certainly not a high priority but would be welcome here.

Where is the best place to make feature requests? Do the developers frequent this sub-forum?

I'd be after something like this:

I find brightly colored projects that use a lot of different colors distracting and tiring when viewed for long periods.

The developers do not come to KVR anymore for suggestions. I do know a couple of us asked about custom colors for tracks, plugins, clips, etc., but the response from Figbug at the time (going from v10 to 11, i think) was the potential riot of colors would cause problems for the color schemes in use. However, they would consider perhaps increasing the colors available...but that never happened.

"Riot of colors" ? Hmmm that's an interesting take on user customisation. I don't see why additional RGB value options would cause any problems as this feature exists in other DAWs without causing a riot. Yes some people use that feature to color their projects to look like a box of crayons exploded but I just need a couple of custom colors that aren't gaudy.

Oh well it is what is is I guess. It's not a deal breaker. Do the developers interact anywhere? Their own forums or on social media?

I want to upgrade to the Pro version if for no other reason than to support the developers but developer interaction with the user base or lack thereof will be a large determining factor in that decision.

They used to be here pretty much daily, and would chat about features, offer support, get into the decision-making process, and provide tips. This really used to be their forum. I'm not aware they do this anywhere anymore. When they do pop in here, now, it's largely to advertise a new product.

Hmmm that's disconcerting as we have no way of knowing if they simply don't care any longer or are simply understaffed these days which is not uncommon in the current labor market.

I'm liking Waveform more each day but I don't want to fall in love with a new DAW if it doesn't have a solid future.

I want to eventually purchase the Pro version but developer engagement with the user base whether it's here, their own forums, or social media etc is very important to me.

This DAW has no reliable future. This DAW is currently focused on quickly creating content for all sorts of instant messengers, and not on professional sound processing!!! In rare cases, you will reach out to support, and if you do reach out and get an answer, they will ignore you anyway!!!

Well that's not good...... :?

From what I gather the ability to specify the individual colors was a feature in some older version of the product but was intentionally removed.

Forum member nowgad has his own opinions which he's quite entitled to. However, some of us don't share his dim view.

Yes, Tracktion have a small team of developers, this has always been the case. This makes it difficult to keep up an interaction with this forum. They would much rather be focused on development. Waveform IS actively being developed, take my word for it. There are bugs and workflow enhancements that need fixing of course, it must be hard for such a small team juggle fixing bugs and adding new features to compete with other DAWS. Lets be honest they are never going to have the resiources of the big players. Having said that Waveform dowes have something very unique to offer in it's workflow, something that appealed to me back when I first used Tracktion at version 1.3.

Oh and by the way, Teksonik, I'd like to personally thank you for the many presets you created for inumerable synths that I have had the pleasure of using since the 2000s, (I'm assuming that is you?). Ta very much

Ok then that's good news. :tu:

I had WF 11 Free installed for quite awhile but for some reason it just never clicked for me and I don't even know why. But then a couple of weeks ago I saw one of Zane Smith's WF 12 videos on his Audio Tech TV Youtube channel and that cleared some things up for me.

So I installed WF 12 Free and have been falling in love with it ever since.

Knowing that it's still being developed certainly makes me feel more comfortable using it going forward. I want to update to Pro but that might not happen for a few months due simply to financial reasons. Maybe there will be a Black Friday deal.

I'm not aware of any other Teksoniks....accept no substitutes. :D

So if that's me then you are most welcome. I don't often release presets these days but it's so nice to get feedback.

There usually is, along with a xmas sale if BF hits too soon.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Ok thanks I'll keep an eye out. :tu:

I see that we can purchase expansions for the free version. I think the "MIDI Producer" expansion might be all I need. It's only $50 right now so that seems like a good deal, even more so if it goes on sale.

Is there anything else along those lines that I would gain by going to the full Pro version?

The only price I see for Pro is $149 which includes MIDI drum loops and autotune, neither of which I need (you could put a dozen different autotune plugins on my horrible voice and it wouldn't help.)
