The competition has been good for Cubase users. I would like to see some efficiency bench mark comparisons where very similar plugins and midi files were loaded using the the same routing types and same audio cards and settings. Which platform is more efficient with cpu and asio performance?

There was a video (cannot remember which) where somebody compared a full song (quite CPU intense) with the same plugins in S1 V5 and Cubase 12... Studio One won by a mileage...Scotty wrote: Tue Sep 26, 2023 11:16 am The competition has been good for Cubase users. I’ll look for it thanks, and I’m not surprised. Cubase 12 is said to make better use of multi core than previous versions, I’m doing some testing here as I built a dual socket 28 cire 56 thread system and have a single socket version 14/28 as well using the same Xeon processor and ram speed.

Studio One is now supporting Linux too!!!
Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

There is also a new file format that you can share between Studio 1 and Bitwig (according to Bitwig's newsletter today).
I have the Artist version of S1, so I hope they add it there also.
This is great
as I can start with Bitwig, then mix with S1

Man, I am a Cubase user and love it with all the flaws and ancient stuff, it performs great but Studio One just rocks with every update. Free or paid. And 6.5 update being free is crazy. It saddens me that Steinberg spending development time trying to clean up the GUI mess and still trying to find a better Inspector or correct font for Mute, Solo etc buttons with every version while the competition is moving ahead. FL with Stem separation, Bitwig Studio One DAW Project, Studio One auto Sound Variations etc.. If the leaked information of Cubase 13 is true there is not one single new innovation or any update to Articulation Maps and other implemented and forgotten features. All I see is new plugins and yet another GUI experiment.

Cubase is IMO the quickest developing DAW though.andypryce wrote: Tue Sep 26, 2023 8:54 pm Man, I am a Cubase user and love it with all the flaws and ancient stuff, it performs great but Studio One just rocks with every update. Nice to see DAWProject getting implemented. Now we need CLAP support in S1.EnGee wrote: Tue Sep 26, 2023 8:16 pm There is also a new file format that you can share between Studio 1 and Bitwig (according to Bitwig's newsletter today).

Right, because there are so many great CLAP only plugins. It's a waste of development resources at the moment and I'd prefer they focus on fixing the problems the current version has.
The very existence of the Inspector was enough to put me off. It's such a massive kludge but in Cubase you can't really work without it. OTOH, I can't even remember what it looks like in Studio One, I haven't seen it since the very first time I ran the application.

I have to say that I've been pretty impressed with Cubase 12 so far. I basically decided on it because I'm used to it and got a good deal, but as someone that used pretty much exclusively third party plugins in my old shared studio, I'm really surprised how much I can do natively.
As I'm working in it, I'm paying attention to what third party plugs will be necessary for my workflow, and I keep crossing more off of the list. Groove Agent 5 SE is basically doing everything I was doing in Battery - sometimes with a slightly more confusing interface, but sometimes with a more intuitive one. The Sampler Track looked kinda weak to me at first, but as someone that used Kontakt as an everyday sampler and for chopping up drum loops, I'm finding that Sampler Track does all that pretty well, and so I might not even need to buy Kontakt at this rate.
Using Studio One for collaborations, it's kinda funny how I go back and forth between "Cubase is genius!" and "Studio One is genius!" Like it's so weird that, in Studio One, you can chop up a drum loop and send the individual parts to the sampler so easily, but no way to create a MIDI file to go along with it. But at the same time, you can take any audio file, drag it to the Groove toolbar, and then drag the MIDI groove back into the project, which is really cool (unfortunately, as far as I can tell, there is no way to have the MIDI notes travel up the keyboard to match the chopped samples).
Also, maybe it's just me, but as much as I love the media browser in Cubase, when working with one screen, the Studio One browser feels SO MUCH less cramped. I get used to working with it in Cubase, and once I open Studio One, it's like a breath of fresh air - I can see so much more. But then at the same time, trying to view all the inserts on a channel in Studio One feels so much more cramped compared to Cubase.
If you can't tell, I'm really enjoying this journey haha
