MSuperLooper is crashing Gig Performer upon loading SUDDENLY

MACBOOK PRO M2 / ventura / most recent versions of gig performer & msuperlooper (that have been working until yesterday)

would you be able to tell me why all of a sudden Melda SuperLooper crashes Gig performer every time on startup, when it is trying to load the same vst that has been working for some weeks now? i attached below what i believe is the crash report.

i never had this problem. i played a few major gigs last week with this setup, and i have changed absolutely nothing since then!

i rebooted, tried different combinations of in- and outputs and settings, and started gig performer also in rosetta mode, to no avail.

it happens pretty much right after opening the program. the pop up / loading plugins window shows MSuperLooper, from my global rackspace, and then shortly before the crash Guitar Rig 6, which i always used and have used a lot with no problems and in most of my patches. this plugin as well as MSLooper is also working flawlessly in ableton!

the last setup i used with GP4 was recording with a motu m2 into ableton and using the input from black hole audio, to which the GP output is routed.

i do not know for sure how to interpret it correctly, but it is obviously MSuperLooper crashing when I load my patch that contains it.

Hello,

sorry to hear you have troubles with MSL. Just tested latest version of Gig Performer 4 under macOS Ventura with MSL 16.09 and could not reproduce the crash at all. See attached screenshot as prove. Tested also on MS Win 10 64bit and all ok as well.

Gig Performer is not on our supported host list, but it does not mean we do not want to fix the issue. Because of this, I would be grateful if you could provide me with the following:

- version of MSL (Melda Plugins), do you use 16.09? Can you reproduce with older version?
- can you reproduce it with "empty" MSL, with no recordings?
- sample GIG Performer project, where I can reproduce this issue
- or at least some straight forward steps how I can reproduce the issue on our side.

The thing is, provided crash report shows main processing method of MSL, which is not very helpful in this case.

as i wrote, MSL has been working since i purchased it about a month ago. the problems appeared out of nowhere! i have not changed anything, so it's difficult for me to even guess.

GigPerformer 4.7. / Melda SuperLooper 16.07

using the great precautionary features of Gig Performer, my workaround now has been to disable MSL in the plugin-manager, remove MSL, save the gig file without it, and re-insert a new instance, which seems to work. so the problem was very case-specific.

(in regards to your question re: "empty" MSL - i never use loops from previous sessions, but for some reason, i have a slight suspicion it could have to do with MSL trying to recall a sound file it has stored away during an earlier session? is it possible to turn this feature off?)

PASTED BELOW IS THE *FULL* CRASH REPORT i had previously posted only the section that seemed to point at MSL - maybe you can get more information out of it?

(on a side note, fellow pro musicians with high standards are switching to GP in large numbers lately because this software is filling such a crucial gap. it would be great to see it supported.)

Based on the provided crash log, it appears that the crash occurred in Thread 6, which is labeled as "MacBook Pro-Lautsprecher." The specific function where the crash happened is within the library libvDSP.dylib at address 0x19d342058. The exception code indicates a "Segmentation fault: 11," which typically occurs when a process tries to access a memory location it is not allowed to access.

If you have some simple GP4 project or guide, how I can reproduce on my machine, you are welcome to send it - I can verify that then. But what is important, this library is not ours, I think it is a part of Gig Performer 4. So I do suggest to send this bug report to their developers.

thanks for your efforts! yes the folks at GP told me as well to talk to *you*, so it seems i'm stuck in the middle.

the problem i can't reproduce myself as it is so one-off, and as mentioned, i worked around it now to get back to where i wanted to be. but even if it happened again, all i could do is send you the crash report.

i have one instance of MSLooper as the only effect in my global rackspace, into which all my patches are loaded. these contain dozens of third-party vst3-plug-ins (though they are more or less all utilizing on NI guitar rig 6 in the case of the concerned gig-file), sending my processed audio to the global rackspace, where i need to loop it during live-performance, using MSLooper.

so, a rackspace with NI GR6 and a global rackspace with MSL, that would pretty much represent the core of what i am doing.

again, it is worth noting that MSLooper has been running reliably for three weeks. is there a way to keep it from trying to reload the looped sound files from previous sessions?

You were right, it is in the middle - Apple:-) But this is even worse, as Apple is well-known for not resolving problems quickly or taking a very long time to do so. In fact, I have personally submitted quite a few tickets to Apple, TSI's, and feedback, but there is rarely any reply or resolution. It is sad, but my experience with them is like this.

So, I suggest you submit a ticket to Apple, as the crash is within their library. I hope you have better luck than I do.

I will repeat myself: if you can send me a simple GP4 project where I can reproduce the crash on my machine, I will check what I can do from our side (workaround or something), and I can certainly submit a ticket to Apple as well.

thanks again for trying to help me sort this out. this attachment contains

1) _Feedback2023_1.rackspace - this is the rackspace that i had used last in the session previous to the ones which crashed upon loading (so GP tries to open with this patch selected)

2) _GR6_10Sound_new_1.rackspace - here is another patch in case you'll need something with fewer and less varied VSTs in use - this one uses only one instance of NI GuitarRig 6. it is also the first one in my gig file list of rackspaces, so upon starting GP, it is probably the first that is loaded in the background

3.) _GLOBAL RACKSPACE.rackspace - the global rackspace, containing SuperLooper, which takes its input from the rackspace - this is probably where the problem with the apple library originates
