I must have the best soundcard in the world because not only does it not have latency, it has anti-latency!

The top track is a midi track that is triggering my Motif. I bounced it down to audio and as you can see, the audio is earlier than the midi. Has anyone experienced this? I did the time adjust/auto-detect thing with my soundcard (Delta1010) so that should be ok. Is there any way to compensate for this aside from physically shifting the track in time afterwards?

Are you sure that the imported clip is lined up properly?

Tracktion has a habit of not placing clips exactly on the cursor.

OR,

Maybe you have something entered into the manual PDC settings.

The latency Tracktion detects goes from Asio to line out to line in to Asio. You skipped the first part (midi to line in to Asio) so its a different and shorter signal path. Tracktions latency figures are for dubbing audio, not midi.

if you add delay, does the audio come out even earlier..?

There are some possibilities here... I'm thinking stock markets and horse racing...

you have the "pre delay" setting for your midi output wrong, adjust in the settings.

Thanks for the responses! I enjoyed the humorous ones as well

PT: the clip was not imported. It was recorded in real time directly onto the audio track.

Cookie: I think I get what you're saying but there has to be some work-around for this. True it's midi, but the midi is triggering the Motif and it's audio output is following the same path as all other audio (vocals, acoustic guitars etc.) I feel like I'm missing something here....shouldn't it be late and not early then?

Ezy Ryder: by pre-delay are you referring to the "time-adjust" setting for the midi track (above the "enable end-to-end" box? I tried different values in there also with no real difference noticed.

No, the pre-delay settings in the settings tab for the midi output.

No, the pre-delay settings in the settings tab for the midi output.

That was it! Thank you. I can't believe I never saw that box before. Setting it to 9ms(late) put it right on the money. Thanks Ezy.

One more question: Have you or anyone else reading this noticed any improvement in performance by enabling "use realtime priority mode" and/or "ASIO direct mode"?

realtime priority mode should be disabled unless absolutely necessary. It is *VERY* dangerous.

ASIO direct can improve performance on some cards, but is usually benign.

I think I know the cause. It's your controller - a Motif.

They are evil in my opinion. I believe that they are possessed by demons.

Stephen St. Croix put it best about the Motif in the August 2004 issue of Mix magazine:

"it doesn't do anything in any way that anybody would try to do it... and who wants to argue with their gear to make music, especially when they can't win"

That's been my experience with my Motif. That was one of the most honest reviews I've ever seen in an industry magazine with paid advertisement.

Thank God for www.motifator.com, or else this thing would have been out the window long ago. I listened to it's sounds and they seduced me at the store. I never figured it would be so difficult to actually use.

Perhaps you have already sold your soul to the Devil, and the Motif's demons are reading your mind, or putting notes into your head, as part of the deal.
