But what did you pay in total to be eligible for the previous upgrades? If the pricing holds true then 8 owners will pay $74 for the two new additions to 9 so that's a fair price. I just haven't seen any official confirmation of the 8 to 9 upgrade price yet. I couldn't begin to add up a final number for everything I've paid for RP plugins over the years but no matter what that number is it's been a great bargain.

I meant explorer 7 to 8 was weak. V9 at least has the "new" Albino.

Basing it only on the old Albino until we have a demo of the new version it's not one of the most impressive synths that's ever bore the Rob Papen name. I received the Bit 2 upgrade free as an owner of E8 and I certainly wouldn't call that weak and there were a couple of the "Sane" effects added for free as well and perhaps more that have slipped my memory.

Rob Papen basically makes the same synth over and over again, just adds some unique quirks to make them appear different. Quad, Vecto, Go2, Predator...they're really all the same to me. Looks like he finally stretched it as much as he could and is now just patching his old devices.
Love/hate relationship...

There is no doubt that all the Rob Papen/Jon Ayres synths have a signature sound but for example Blue 3 and Bit 2 are entirely different instruments.

Quad, Vecto, Blade 2, Raw, SubBoom Bass, Go 2, all share some core components but are all still great synths in isolation and each can create unique sound in the right hands. Check out the JoMal presets for each synth as proof of that. I've made some patches I really enjoy for each of the E8 synths. Then of course there are the Punch, Punch 2, and Punch BD drum plugins. Predator 3 is a close cousin to Albino it's just missing the four layers and so on.

The one plugin that doesn't get much press is Prisma which allows us to layer up to four of the RP synths including the drums to create some seriously impressive complex sounds. We can add FX and do key splits for the layers and more. I've really enjoyed using Prisma but sadly the latest version is quite buggy here. I've mentioned it to Rob but it would be nice if some other users would try Prisma as well to see if they can confirm the bugs or not.

So I have a love/love relationship with the Rop Papen plugins but then I do find their signature sound very pleasing and quite useful. Blue 3 alone is one of my favorite synths from any developer.

Anyway I suggest everyone catch Rob's live stream on YouTube today. I'm guessing he will discuss the Albino Legend/Go2 X updates further and we can ask questions in the live stream. I've enjoyed all his live streams as he often goes through sound design tutorials and there's some useful information and news in all of them.

I really like Rob, he's one of us. A synth nerd and a talented electronic musician as well.

It's a PITA on the new system and I end up using the 32 bit one, but I think I bought it from Linplug and I don't think it's in my Papen account so how does the upgrade work for me. All I got when Linplug went away was a serial number that is also a PITA to put into the VST.

That won't be determined for sure until we can get our hands on the demo of the new version.

It will be up to the individual if the new version adds anything to their arsenal of current plugins. I remember Albino being a lot of fun to patch and I don't think that will change so for that reason alone I'm interested.

I don't think Albino Legend will replace any of the more modern plugins in our folder but I think it might augment them quite well. Again depending entirely on time spent with the new demo until we know for sure.

I have the same situation and question. I purchased the original Albino directly from Linplug and still have a serial number from them but I'm guessing that won't qualify for the $49 upgrade price. Not a big deal here as I plan on purchasing the Explorer 8 to 9 upgrade. If the price does indeed stay at $74 then that will be a fair deal.

Again we can ask these kinds of questions during the live stream if you're able to catch it and of course you can always watch it later so see if any new information is revealed.

Just out of curiosity why would the 64 bit version be more of a PITA than the 32 bit version?

Teksonik - you sold your Albino to me a number of years ago, just so you'll know. At the time, Papen allowed me to register it, so if others are unable to, I'd say they sold theirs, as well - and the purchaser used it to upgrade into an Explorer package (which I did) - or simply registered it. And maybe it's somehow a fluke, but I've got no problem using Albino on M1 without Rosetta - though I think someone earlier in the thread also said theirs works on silicon without Rosetta. I still enjoy using it, so it will have to be more than just a bigger UI for me to pay $50 for an upgrade, as the size is fine with me.

If I remember correctly, upgrades to the next Explorer are $99, but sometimes on Black Fridays or other occasions, there is a 25% discount off that at JRR or Plugin Boutique.

If you have a host that can run plugins out-of-process, you can run the host in AS mode and it will take care of "bridging" the plugin(s), that's probably your case - otherwise the DAW needs to run in Rosetta 2 mode.

For some sounds, I haven't found an exact duplicate in albino - mainly some butterly smooth highpass and bandpass psy leads.

Hopefully, they enhance the sound, but have 1 to 1 sound for older patches. Otherwise, I'll have no interest in it - unless it's truly unique and as far as RP plugs go, is less than a 10 percent chance tbh, imo.

Logic automatically bridges all AUs, so until Apple decides they need to kill Rosetta 2, they should all work fine along side your native M1 plugins.

So far: No new filters for Albino Legend. Upgrade price from Explorer 8 to 9 will indeed be $74. So I'm in the day it's available........

Albino Legend will have four different GUI sizes included 125% which fits perfectly at 1920x1080. All old presets will load.

He's talking about Go2 X now....we can draw our own waveforms. New filters including some of the Z filters will be added to Go2 X. Poly MPE.
