Just tweak the Effect slider to taste… :D
But, all the sliders just reset themselves when you click a new Genopatch.

It's a pain in the arse going back and changing them for each one.
Until forever fades away.

Would love to use the dark skin but the black text on the dark grey background strains my eyes in ways that nullify the eye-strain-relief benefits I get from using 'dark mode' !
Others have had the same issue, and as it is skin-able, there should be alternatives forthcoming.
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

After clicking "Dismiss" in the "legacy-mode warning" window, the window now stays dismissed until you manually open it again.
it's stopped now, cheers

What other synth can do that?
The only thing that I think comes close would be Steinbergs backbone, but that's only really for percussive samples and is limited on what you can do to edit the iterations it spits out

Would I be correct in thinking a simple way to say what Synplant is, is that it's the ultimate answer to the question "How do I make 'that' sound" ? You just sample whatever sound you want and Synplant will resynthesise it and come up with multiple iterations that progressively get further from the "prime" sound ?

I have identified its achilles' heel. It can't reproduce a guitar. Every guitar sample I tried sounds like crap, especially nylon guitar.
Its over for Bitwig--CUBASE WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you take your nylons off does it make any difference?
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

In the genopatch the sound gets progressively closer to the source sound.

It's the starting attempts that are most removed.

But you're right. In a way it's one of the most literal "synthesisers" ever made in that you give it a source and it attempts to rebuild it using relatively simple synthesis.

And you're also on the money when you say that it answers a lot of questions as to how sounds are fundamentally constructed from basic building blocks.

I went the extra mile and ditched the nylons but Synplant was determined to stay in its synthetic comfort zone :x

You can keep recycling and rebuilding branches until you get a version you're happy with, for those who only think you only ever get four branches and the searching is somehow the same every time. I agree with some about the frustration with not being able to disable the reverb, but maybe they will refine it over time.

Padshop Pro also does what Backbone does but for non percussive material. But what Synplant 2 is doing is not spectral resynthesis, it’s more like a person hearing a sound and trying to recreate it with the synth they have. Only here the person is replaced with AI and the synth is a fairly limited FM synth so it can only replicate some things. Of course it’s still very cool.

Though the promise of Genopatch peaked my interrest, I have to say.. the above echos my thoughts on the matter. It's a hell to operate this synth and so far the Genopatch hasn't cooked up anything for me that is really playable across the keyboard.
I mean there are hundreds of synths with all the bells and whistles but pretty much none with the kinds of capabilities that Synplant 2 has in the Genopatching.

The USP of synplant IS the Genopatching.

What other synth can do that?

The only other one is the upcoming Sumu by Madrona Labs.

Synplant 2 is also the furthest thing from "hell" to operate.

I've had more unique sounds out of Synplant 2 in a few minutes than I have had with pretty much any synth. It's literally almost all automated!

It's unbelievably quick to get something useful from. I find it really inspiring.
This synth gels with you and that’s fine. It does not gel with me at all and that’s also fine.

Took me literally 5 minutes to make a slow long attack for a pad sound. Just by messing with the parameters (placing them on max or min). The real problem is not being able to 'lock' them when looking for new sounds.
