Cost of living increases means cost of living increases for everyone working at TAL, too.
But the price game can be played in different ways, some more likeable than others.

... and those who buy plugins too.

If plugins are getting more expensive then people have to get more for their work to be able to afford them (including plugin developers), which makes plugins more expensive.

The lunacy of inflation and wage increases.

That's why I always found it so funny that companies justify raised prices with some kind of crisis. Well, it affects us all, doesn't it?

However, bumping a price on something when the previous price had a limited market to begin with is a bit myopic. Their sales would have been better for them at a reduced price increasing the base instead. As it was, many decided on staples or comfort food buys...

As for the vendors though, I can understand where their (yours) pricing had to be calculated by their overhead.

It's not like Patrick gets any less than if Audio Deluxe sold at full price. It should be AD taking the loss.
It de-values the product and TAL will have trouble selling J-8’s at full price moving forward. A good example of this is NI’s u-he sales.

No doubt. That's why MSRP exists in the first place. And I'm not going to argue retail knowledge with you. :)

For some vendors though, these could be "loss leaders", where the license stock has been taking up room for too long. Offering it at a steep discount to get the traffic back. And even with the SNAFU, it certainly did that for them.

Other viable ways would've have been the "free with purchase" route that don't vendors do either by advertising or the vendors' sweetening of an ongoing deal not yet closed.

And I remember when some companies didn't have a MSRP but held the vendors to a strict minimum of MAP.

This doesn't read right as it gives the impression multiple resellers were affected due to lack of notification from Patrick, whereas this price appears to be an Audiodeluxe exclusive for their anniversary.

If they're willing to take a loss on a product to get customers in the proverbial door, they can. Some companies try to forbid that type of thing with minimum purchase prices, but that's generally frowned upon by regulators, who view that as anti-competitive behavior.
Btw, that's not true for every market/country in any situation.

In my country you are entitled to sell lower than your own purchase price, but as soon as you do it "apparently" to wipe your competition off the market and/or do it regularly and permanently, then your competitors might sue you successfully.

However, in any case there's a lot of uncertainty when going to court with such accusations because it's difficult to prove.

P.S. Just sayin' ...
