No internet so the bad with the good. No social media, no ads on top of ads. I kind of miss pre-broadband when Google and Amazon didn't control everything.

1984 was the year I traded my Apple ][+ system for a Juno 6 and MC202 at a local music store. That was a definining moment because it was transition from computer programming to music.

1984 was great for electronic music. People mentioned a bunch above, good callouts. I would add:

Skinny Puppy, Remission (stunning debut)
New Order, Thieves Like Us (decent single)
Cabaret Voltaire, Micro-Phonies (Sensoria! Do Right! so good)
Front 242, No Comment (not their best but pretty decent overall)
Depeche Mode, Some Great Reward (their first to chart in the US)

on and on. Great year.

^ nice list, love them all.

a few others for me:

Thomas Dolby ---The Flat Earth
Talk Talk ---It's My Life
Black Flag---My War
Minor Threat---Minor Threat
The Fall---The Wonderful and Frightening World Of
Echo and the Bunnymen---Ocean Rain
Minutemen---Double Nickels On The Dime
