Ok thanks I'll give it a go later today.......pough wrote: Wed Sep 27, 2023 12:44 amIt's two steps instead of just one.Teksonik wrote: Tue Sep 26, 2023 8:22 pm If there was just an easy way to turn an edit into a project (save edit as project) I think that would make things easier for me. Then as you say I could just have a folder full of edits of different tracks and then when one evolves to a certain point I could turn it into a project with its own folder and subfolders.
1. In the Projects tab select the Edit and "Archive Edit...". Rename it to be what you want the resulting folder name to be.
2. Still in the Project tab, right click one of the active project folders and "Open a project or archive" and find the archive you just made. It will create a new Project with just that Edit in it.
Embarassingly simple question - saving a project

I'd like to upgrade to Pro. Last time I looked the price was $149 but that included drum loops and other things I don't need.operandx wrote: Tue Sep 26, 2023 8:38 pm Pro version has so much more than free. Looking at the version comparison in the other thread, some of the features are not included in any add-ons. One of my most used features is the 'Arranger Track' which allows for quick changes (duplications, moves) for sections of an edit.
But I see the price has been $89 in the past and if it hits that point during Black Friday then I'm definitely in.....

Last Christmas it was $74.50 for WF12 upgrade from Free. Black Friday usually 50% off IIRC.Teksonik wrote: Thu Sep 28, 2023 2:06 pm

Well then I'm definitely in
There is still enough I need to learn about the Free version so that will keep me busy until I can upgrade.
Not saying Pro isn't worth the $149 but there is very little money in my software budget these days so every penny counts.

I have two scratch pad projects. One is named "garbage" and the other is "blank." I'm not sure why I have two or if they are supposed to be treated differently. I just know that everything in them is temporary and must not be treated as sacred. They are not so very temporary after all. Both have multiple edits which end up being multiple scratch pads. I don't delete them. I just create new edits. They are basically idea buckets or test buckets.pough wrote: Tue Sep 26, 2023 7:58 pmI hate having to start by naming and saving a nothing song. I either have to give it a nothing name like a number or a string of semi-random words.Teksonik wrote: Tue Sep 26, 2023 5:52 pm The thing is I don't know about you guys but sometimes I start a new project and just don't come up with anything worth saving.
I've done that. Create a new project, save it and close it. Then go to an old project tab, save edit (Ctrl+Shift+s for me) and browse to the new project's directory. There is only one edit there because it's brand new. I save the old edit with the same file name as the new project's single edit, overwriting it. Reopen the new project, tadaaaa... It's the old edit turned into a new project.Teksonik wrote: Tue Sep 26, 2023 8:22 pm If there was just an easy way to turn an edit into a project (save edit as project) I think that would make things easier for me.

I also use Blank as a project to test new plugins, experiment, set up scenarios for screenshots when answering questions, etc. Lmv and I apparently have similar approaches!
I will certainly try lmv's suggestion on converting edits to projects. This seems very useful, if undocumented anywhere else.

I'm assuming it'll work for Free to Pro but not 100% sure.

WooHoo it worked! I am now the proud owner of Waveform 12 Pro.
I like how it updates to the Pro version as soon as the license is in your account. Now off to download content.
Thanks again! I owe you one!

Thanks but I'm still not getting my head around Tracktion's file handling system.
It seems like "Save Edit as New Project" would be the simple way to do it but no such option exists that I can find.
I tried your suggested steps today and I think I got it to work once but my projects folder is an utter mess. I may just have to just toss everything out start all over or just manually delete the folders that contain edits that aren't worth saving.
So where do you guys store your project files? Mine is under Documents/Waveform Projects.
I guess I'll have to start a new project every day and then manually delete the projects that don't go anywhere that day. Otherwise I will end up with 300 or more folders every year, most of which contain edits that probably won't go anywhere.
Working with edits inside of a "New Projects" folder would work but the process of turning an edit into a project seems a bit too convoluted.

This is the correct answer, Thanks!pough wrote: Wed Sep 27, 2023 12:44 am
It's two steps instead of just one.
1. In the Projects tab select the Edit and "Archive Edit...". Rename it to be what you want the resulting folder name to be.
2. Still in the Project tab, right click one of the active project folders and "Open a project or archive" and find the archive you just made. It will create a new Project with just that Edit in it.
I was off from Waveform for a while and couldn't remember how to do this. Such a PITA. There should definitely be an easier way. Need to do this quite often after all.
