The free LA-2A doesn't support iLok Cloud - it's dongle and machine authorisations only.

Are you sure about that? UAD told me they have no plans to support machine authorization.

I have Diamond and I have authorized via iLok dongle.

I only see the option for the dongle or cloud. No option for machine authorization.

Yes, but this is a free plugin, they probably don't want to pay the extra iLok fees for supporting a Cloud activation method.

You seem to have misread my post. I said this free LA-2A supports machine authorisation. Not, "now all existing native plugins support machine authorisation".

I didn’t miss your post. I asked because I’m very interested in them including machine authorization across the board.

I would love to ditch the iLok single on the laptop.

I’m hoping they’re experimenting with this.

I’ll likely send them another email pointing this out… because otherwise users would be pissed if they upgrade from this free machine authorized plug-in to a more expensive bundle that doesn’t offer this option.

I'd also prefer machine authorisation, but I think it's unlikely they will change. But do let us know if they say anything different to "no plans to support machine authorisations".

Edit: I'll save you the email - from UA, about why this one supports machine authorisations:

Whoop whoop! Got the free LA-2A last night direct from UAD, but picked up the Essentials bundle this morning from PB for $50 (and coincidentally got ANOTHER license for the free LA-2A). Now I got the whole collection of em, the Pultec's and another Space Echo for cheaper than I was going to pay for the LA-2A bundle alone last week. There's all my Waves plugins replaced except the SSL channels and bus comp, which got handled by Softube and SSL anyways..

Actually I think it's unlikely that they won't include machine authorization in the future...
they'll certainly learn that keeping to lower and lower the prices won't do for some of us...
UAD are the epitome of "too little too late" at this point in the native plugins market.

On their unofficial/official forum I have a bit of hope. It’s the only one with machine auth for now…

I can live with that ray of hope.

For me, they’re doing this at just the right time. I’m out of Waves. I’m treading carefully with PA/NI/Ozone. Great timing for me.

Plus more things to come in November. Something new and sounds like a few more ports to native.

Honestly, I'm down to a small selection of T-Racks.

Arturia... I have to say I like their effects more and more.

Later on, I hopefully won't have so many different effect plugins/different brands installed? But, I'm having fun learning the original gear everything was based on. I should have done this a long time ago.

I couldn't resist. I haven't had UA plugins since my UAD-1 card days which apparently is more than 20 years ago. So looks like I'm back in the UA camp.

The 50€ euro essentials upgrade bundle thing is just silly good value. All of the plugins included are top notch. Especially the Pure Plate reverb, Galaxy delay and the Iron Oxide tape things. Those are the stand outs in my opinion.. but even the pultecs and the compressors can be useful. The LA-2 is really interesting in how slow yet natural it is with the compression.

The $£€200 Mix bundle is also great value for what you get imo, if you want those plugins.

UAD still worth it?
