Is U-He Diva un-optimised for Ryzen 7950x or un-optimised just for FL Studio?

We haven't had any problem so far on any AMD machine, and we have several. I don't know about the specific CPUs we got, I just know we have not been able to replicate the issue on any of our Ryzen CPUs.

Speculating here without any further information while the person affected is also sending emails to our support guys is not going to speed things up, either. We'll deal with it when we can, i.e. we probably need access to a machine that exhibits problems, and then we'll hopefully be able to pin down the cause.

(as CLAP performance seems to be no different, it is certainly not an issue with our own threading system)

Post

Understood. Well, 7950X is a relatively new CPU and AM5 platform is quite fresh still, so it's quite unsurprising that you haven't been able to reproduce the issue (it's said in the thread that prior Ryzen CPUs are working just fine with the expected performance rather than what's happening with 7950X). Fairly sure the Ryzen machines you have aren't running 7950X then.

Post

So maybe they're optimised for benchmarks and not for real world applications. This isn't unheard of, but continuing to speculate is not really helpful atm.

Post

Not really, because evidently other plugins get the expected performance increase vs previous generations... and of course all applications across the board. Existing non-synthetic benchmarks with real applications already prove this. Anyways, I'm really curious what it is that causes Diva/Repro unable to use this extra performance that is obviously there on the table. I'll shut up now. :)

There are a gazillion ways to benchmark and compare things the wrong way, particularly when expectations are involved. We prefer to do our own benchmarks before we jump to conclusions, and we have tools that are far more precise than the tools available to people out there.

On a positive note, we had ordered such a machine several weeks ago and today it finally arrived. Unfortunately the colleague who this machine is for is not in the office for a while. Maybe we know more in a few weeks.

Until then I'll just say that the matter is as frustrating for us as for anyone. If the Windows world now has a situation one usually expects from Apple, i.e. that certain applications need special treatment for a new type of processor, then *ugh*. We can afford to do it for Apple because they cater for over 50% of our market. But if this turns out to become a nightmare where large parts of our software need to be rewritten for a handful of users, I don't know if we can do that. Therefore let's hope it's an easy fix, like a driver update or a system setting.

If I can help in any way, I would be happy to do so. Should I contact support to further exchange information ?

As mentioned Hive, Zebra are plugins that recieve expected performance. Repro partly, but the core count has to be set on 8 in the settings.

Anyways Im glad you got this machine, curious about your findings.

Post

I saw in thread about divas performance on Ryzen you have recieved last week new Ryzen machine with AM5 processors. Im curious how fast the fix will come :)

Post

So we finally had a look into to this, and it is looking very good for a change.

Turns out, we identified a performance bottleneck in Diva that was inconspicuous on any other CPU we have, including an older Ryzen with 16 physical cores. The issue is reminiscent to one that came up whit the first generation Cybergrater Mac Pros, but it is in a different section of the code. A few tweaks have made a big difference.

I can not say when exactly we'll be releasing an update, as we're busy rolling out MPE stuff, and we have not yet looked into the similar issues reported on Repro.

Post

Hey, that sounds great. :)
It's definitely not a question of implementing it in a few weeks more or less. Diva and Repro basically work. I'm curious how much performance boost can be expected.

Super happy to hear these news! Do you think its realistic to expect the update to be rolled out before christmas? :-)

Post

I have found this topic by coincidence. Thank you for testing this new AM5 CPU, because I'm also planning to get a new CPU, but I think I will get the 7800x3d CPU. At the moment I'm using an Intel 3770K.

This 3770K can run (with the patch mentioned before)

20 instances in Great Quality (1 instance 1 note)
16 instances in Divine Quality (1 instance 1 note)

Host: Bitwig 5
Plugin Version: CLAP
Sample Rate: 48 khz
Buffer Size: 1024 samples

Hope the 3d cache will have a positive effect on the music production topic.

Greetings

this thread is such a great read and an example of how all devs should tackle (performance) issues. Awesome stuff!

I also came across this thread by chance. I also have an AM5 AMD and am eagerly awaiting the update.

Here's the fix for Diva:

Please check it out and let us know how she does on latest AMD Ryzen :)
