Looks like they're doubling down on the subscription pricing...not looking good for them. From the youtube video introducing Current:
Hey everyone, Jake from Minimal Audio here. I'm sorry to see that we have upset so many of our customers as well as friends.

Unfortunately, there has been a strong reaction to Current's pricing, as well as a lot of misinformation regarding the intention and future direction of the company. It's a bummer because that's not the community that we're trying to foster.

I just want to be clear that since the start of Minimal Audio, what we have been building is Current. Our aim for Current is a limitless ecosystem that delivers an incredible value for everyone, with a low barrier of entry, which we can continue to expand upon.

For transparency, we will continue to release standalone products which will also be a available inside of Current. All of your perpetual products will continue to be supported and remain active on the website. We have no intention of removing any product offerings, only adding more, and we have a lot in the pipeline.

While I understand that you may have some reservations with subscriptions — we believe that once you give it a shot, many of you will feel it's worth it. It is a product that our team has put their heart and soul into, and I'm confident you will feel the value. If it doesn't inspire you, you can unsubscribe at any time, and your sessions will always continue to work.

I'd also like to say, we are seeing the most signups of any product we've ever released. To those of you who have decided to take the leap and try Current, we want to thank you for giving it a shot, and we can't wait to hear your feedback so we can continue to build something incredible together.

A true emulation of Hardware prices :hihi:

Ugh.....doubling down.....bruh....people already said they arent even going to try it. The most sign ups doesnt equal the most sustained subscriptions. Most sign ups could mean "im gunna try for 30 days"

Post

They do realize other synths exist right? Serum, Vital, Pigments, Omnisphere.......even a $480 Omni is a smarter decision. This is an unwise decision.

Yes - take a hike MINIMAL AUDIO :x :x :x

No shit. It's a full-blown synth. Of course it's gonna gather more interest than an effect VST (even something as good as Rift).
Until forever fades away.

I find this so odd. Why not give the option of both? Sell the synth only and sound packs can be sold individually. Say $30 per pack. For people that want to make this their work horse synth and have everything, a subscription becomes a good option, especially if there are new sounds every month or so. And for everyone else, they could still buy in with fewer sounds. Major upgrades could come with a fee. Not the most customer friendly approach, but absolutely fine.

And $15 for a single synth seems very expensive compared to other options. I wasn't a fan of the Kilohearts subscription either (bought it outright), but it included everything the company had (incl. sound packs) + vouchers to make it essentially rent to own - for 9,99. And to think last week I thought this was going to be an instabuy...

So, they're essentially admitting that, they had this planned from the beginning?

To hook customers in with their effect plugins, with the intent of eventually culminating in a 'subscription only' synthesizer/content/shop-portal/?

'Minimal Audio?' ... 'Minimal Sense!' ... Or perhaps just "Maximum Greed!' more likely.

Hey, that should be their new corporate slogan:

"Minimal Audio ... Maximum Greed!"

Kilohearts, please show these misguided Minimal Morons "the way" to actually market and sell a successful and 'fair to customers' [ synth / host / effects ] ecosystem.

Because these damn fools have lost their damn minds, if they think this model is going to be a success in today's climate.

Mistake?

Putting wrong specs is a mistake. Posting a wrong download URL is a mistake.

This was not a mistake.

I feel it will inevitably fail and there will eventually be some form of 'backtracking', albeit in a way in which the company tries to save face.

I am sure they took the idea from Output Arcade, it is even the same price.
