Loved and bought Rift and had a lot of sympathy towards the company.

Aside from the fact that I'll avoid music software subscriptions until the day I die, 15$ monthly / 120 yearly for a synth is absurd pricing, no matter how the synth sounds and what FX will be added in the future.

Credit card infos for a free trial? They really went nuts in every area with this synth didnt they :dog: ?

It doesn't matter how economically justified it is. This will only work in three cases:
1. The tool is used in work or the company pays for it
2. This is a service for the tool, but the tool itself is owned by
3. Rent-to-Own

I, personally, would pay small amount (about price comparable with 2 cups of coffee/month) for convenient stuff like constantly updated amount of samples for granular engine. I mean, tools has to be owned, everything else can be a service. If you can't justify the price of service itself it's a bad service.
I think you nailed the issue here.

It's one thing offering a subscription for content but for the tool itself is really odd.

I rarely buy anything for the presets. I'm more interested in using a synth to make my own sounds.

I know many other people do like presets which is fine but in my usage case I would be paying a subscription for the tool alone.

I already own all the Minimal effects so there is precious little there for me. Certainly not enough to justify shelling out 15 bucks a month.

£15 a month for the future FX to be contained within the synth makes the future promise worthless, because new FX or not, they're confined to the synth so... what's the benefit? The exact same thing could be defined as "will include feature updates" as that's all it will be. I think it's really disingenuous. Maybe, just maybe, the Kilohearts model would work here - sell perpetual licences or do an everything subscription with a £/$/€100 annual voucher to convert the sub to a licence. What Minimal Audio offer here is just the worst of everything, £15 for one synth and some presets/samples. Reason Plus is £20 a month with a DAW, plus Instruments, FX, MIDI FX, Soundpacks etc. Studio One+ is a similar deal for £15.

The credit card sign up for a free trial is classic "let's scrape revenue from people who forget to cancel" and is transparently scummy. I would have been interested, but I am not now. I could be persuaded back with a perpetual offer and a big apology discount lol, but doubt we'll see that.

yes, but only inside current.
Ah, but presumably Current doesn’t itself have an fx version?

I might go for something like this if it used the Kilohearts model where the sub contributes towards buying products to keep, I ended up buying Phaseplant that way and then of course ended the sub.

I think it's gonna take about 30 days until there might be a policy change. Right now they are seeing a bunch of people signing up with their credit cards for the trial. Reading this thread though, it is fair to assume, that not many will stay in the subscription after that period, and that's when they probably realize what's up at minimal headquarters..

Personally, I am also in the "avoid subscriptions at all costs"-camp and left the current synth homepage and unsubscribed from their e-mail newsletter as soon as I scrolled over the payment options.. without grim or anything, just a natural reaction.. so there you go.

Sry, but that's nothing unusually when they have subscription Services.

you can cancel the Subscription right after and still have your 30 Days.
People should do that asap!

Hmmm I believe I have tried two music software subscription demos... UAD Spark (I think I used paypal), and Roland Cloud (not sure they asked any financial info, but that was years ago)..

Does this have to be a cc or can be paypal?

Does minimal allow license transfers for their perpetual products? Asking for a friend.
They do not.
This should have served as a red flag.

Btw anyone knows if Current can be resized?
