I need an authentic subtractive analog synth (so I can get into the synthesis game)...
I apologize for the generalness of my initial post, allow me to outline further specifications:

>Keyboard built in
>Budget: $500
>Transportable, moderate size (3-5 octaves).
>music inspirations:
-old school techno
-dark ambient
-vaporwave
-dungeon synth
-lo-fi
>Strong preference for something vintage
>Strong preference for old garbage (this is lo-fi philosophy)
>Need BASS capabilites
>Need MIDI capabilities, as I shall record into DAW

poly and 500 narros it down quite a bit imho
korg minilogue /maybe xd (more expensive)
behrinnger deepmind 6
are the only ones...
maybe arturia microfreak
which is not really polyphon but rather paraphon
and it's rather a digital one than an analog...

the prices have gone up in the last couple of years
jx8p/jx3p might have been in the 500 range
but afaik not anymore...

You're having a laugh for 500 but anyway, I'll tell you your options:
Korg Minilogue XD (£529) or Behringer Deepmind 6 (£495) as everyone else has recommended.
You may as well spend more and get the Deepmind 12 (£669).
I would personally go for a Poly-800 Behringer Pro-800 (£335) + MIDI Keyboard such as Arturia Keystep 37 (£169) Total: £504.
Spend around £1300 and all your options open up considerably.

As above. Not much of anything in that range for a poly. MinilogueXD at slightly over budget. An older straight Minilogue does fit the bill but has quite a bit less than the XD. Definitely worth considering as those Korg filters are very characterful and any Minilogue is a standout synth. Only 4 voices but that's definitely usable.
Deepmind 6 is much more vanilla but very capable nevertheless. It's a good starter analogue and very much based on Roland Junos, so it keeps many people happy. It really is what you'd call bog standard in terms of sound though, as were Junos, so I guess it does what it says on the tin.
Classic analogue? You'll be very lucky to get anything worth having for $500. Possibly a JX3p? I suspect they've increased above that range by now, but they were really good - possibly one of my favourite budget Roland's - way more character than any Juno IMO.
If it has to be $500, then you might have to consider Behringer Pro800. No keyboard, but for that price you get a desktop 8 voice analogue and can afford a keyboard controller on top. It's out on its own for price, with literally no other 8 voice analogue anywhere close. Keep your eyen on Behringer, they might have other cheap poly analogues out soon? Not definite, but possible.

Out of that lot, I'd go Minilogue XD for just a bit over budget. It stands on its own as oozing in character heads and shoulders above the rest. All the others are just a bit boring in comparison IMO, but the Behringer 8voice is absolutely stunning value (no keyboard).

Could also consider Behringer PolyD and Behringer Monopoly, which are both 4 voice truly paraphonic and quite limited for poly action (1 osc per voice) but they're both $600k. Deepmind6 is $600. I checked Sweetwater and a basic Minilogue is $550, which looks your closest bet. Nothing new comes in at $500 with a keyboard and poly. You should be able to find some of these at $500 2nd hand though.

Some of these models do look promising as a place to start.
If anybody still wants to continue this thread please feel free to make recommendation's beyond the conservative budget which I had initially lain out. I am willing to invest more into a truly aesthetic piece of equipment... 0_0
