They say the best bang for your buck is the i7-14700K.

The E-cores are still shunned by a lot of DAWs though :/ so need to lasso them, depending. One reason I went with R7950X.

Can you elaborate on that? Thought that was a Windows 10 vs. 11 problem (i.e. Windows 10 not recognizing e-cores).
Edit: I guess you mean this? https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-u ... cture-CPUs

I really don’t know what I’m talking about here, but it seems to me that, in order to properly take advantage of e cores, a DAW would have to have specialized code that assigns tracks with less processing to the e cores. Currently, if I remember correctly, most DAWs just assign each track to a core in the order they appear. Track 1 > core 1, track 2 > core 2, etc. Then it just starts over when you’re out of cores. So, it’s kind of arbitrary which cores get the e cores.chk071 wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 3:25 pmCan you elaborate on that? I’m guessing some devs are working on this, but from my experience it can take a while. Such an “invisible” feature isn’t usually a top priority.

I have no idea either, but, judging from that article, it sounds more like a thing which has to be managed better by the OS.stillshaded wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 5:19 pmI really don’t know what I’m talking about here, but it seems to me that, in order to properly take advantage of e cores, a DAW would have to have specialized code that assigns tracks with less processing to the e cores. Or Steinberg is shifting the responsibilities, which could surely be the case as well, of course.
I hate nowadays tech. Way too bloated and complicated for its own good. Glad that I still have a 11th gen Intel.

Wow that's a lot of cores, I have a 10 core i7 right now and it's always at like 4% cpu.

It's a lot of cores, but the 6ghz is very cool too.
Some patches in Ashlight/Straylight almost pin a single core if playing a chord. (8700k running around 4.3ghz I think) This is with Cubase's asioguard, which is another factor I guess.

Intel page says 24 cores - # of Performance-cores 8. # of Efficient-cores 16. Majority of reviews talk about the increase in electricity used. (vs AMD and even the new i7.)
I have to laugh. My first PC had 200 MHz AMD-K6™ MMX™ Enhanced Processor and a 1 gig hard drive.

TRS-80 CoCo with cartridge adapter and the cassette player! I think it had 1.8 Mhz.
A few years later my friend had a 386 with the LED clock frequency on display. But the real impressive bit was the TURBO button. Always had to press that before loading up the BattleHawks 1942 game. Eat lead, Cheetah!

I was supposed to get one of those, but there was an obvious mistake at the factory. In the box was a 486 DX/4 75 instead. I didn't complain. Impulse Tracker was where it was at!michat wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 9:47 pm486 SX 25 with 540 Mb HD here. It worked for Fasttracker 2.0 back thendonkey tugger wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 8:52 pm

Got mine used with a dot matrix printer and a 14" screen.
MS Dos 6.2 and Win 3.11.
I remember playing Doom every second I was not making "music" through a shitty Soundblaster 16 and cheap computer speakers

Yes. Also happens on Ableton and some others, you'll basically get perf drop or sound glitches etc.chk071 wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 3:25 pmCan you elaborate on that? Thought that was a Windows 10 vs. 11 problem (i.e. Windows 10 not recognizing e-cores).

No need to do such with Ryzen. Also 7950X is cooler and has better efficiency. The 14th gen seems a bit of a "what" from all the reviews seen. Lets wait for some DAW benches
