Wait, does this mean Kenny needs to remake all his videos?

The best thing about a new version of Reaper is that I can complain about the graphics (which can be changed by a fantastic Reaper theme, or tweaking it yourself), whine about some missing features my own DAW has (that Reaper actually does have, and it doesn't make me able to produce anything in my DAW either), and thinking my workflow is better than yours because of feature x/y (that can be customised 10 times more and better in Reaper).
There are two kinds of people in the world. And you're not one of them.

That's the "secret" of the genius behind the design of Reaper. Out of the box it forces one to break out of the "spoon-feed" me mentality into taking initiative, which is very necessary nowadays with computing.. Justin and crew were ahead of the game from the start and those that have eyes to see that will "get it".
It took me a while to see that (bought a license last year) but thank god my geek side got summoned.
Im at a point where i have no idea how i got any work done without it.
Ask not what your DAW can do for you, but what you can do with your DAW

OT ALERT

Just for the record, Lunar Lander was criminally underrated. I rate it up there with Williams games ie: Defender, Sinistar, Robotron etc.

Ok sorry for hijack.

The trouble with Reapers design is that the implementation of skinning is inherently half-baked in and if it wasn't for that, I would be designing skins for the application whether people would like them or not because that's one of the things in my life that I'm passionate about.

Reaper as a DAW falls short of my needs as a music artist, that the frustration in dealing with its problems just far outweighs its usefulness and compromises in what I can achieve, than in a faster environment that provides all the tools I need to create dance music to film scores easily like it's an extension of my hand quickly. I used Reason for over a decade and then moved to Studio One. Its GUI is standardised, and thought out in an intuitive way that is consistent.

I'm not averse to building custom interfaces providing the facilities allow it to be properly implemented. Cinema 4D is a key example where I did this on a regular basis many years ago and still do today. Its system in building and customising its GUI is practically unmatched in the graphics world. I still use C4D R11.5 XL today. C4D GUI Customised.

I don't depend on any developers, other than for addressing issues in scripting code where things stop working properly in my own projects, I'm otherwise happy to be independent in GUI design work, of-which I have people donate money when releasing new skins for VST instruments.

You mentioned my website in your previous post, but you didn't seem to realise that the site is fully customisable from clicking and holding on the GUI-STYLISER button in the top left of the screen which has a range of colours and backgrounds to choose from in addition to being able to remove borders and vie the (0000) buttons to change colours besides having other interactive elements for navigation. The default design is retro-based. I stripped out a lot of the default blog code and rescripted it by hand to make an actual site. My skins are free to download there.

One rhing to consider is that Reaper works on very old OS systems. This could be why certain implementation features are unavailable for skinning.

Well thank god for studio one!

That all depends what you are looking to do, again, considering that there will be limitations based on Reaper working on old OS systems. If you consider those Reaper limitaions that voila, you have the means for "proper implementation".

That sounds more complicated than Reaper.

It's not, just click on the GUI button, and you can either choose a colour in the list or click on the white dropdown field and select the background like Tron World, Red Sunset, or whatever.

How can someone whose name has no meaning affect me? Intrancer isn't even a word. It's like me saying I'm the VOODOOBER

The choice of words is super interesting to me here, as I have described Reaper being like an extension of my hand, heh :) ... If you happened to live nearby, we could hang out and try this in person, in a friendly manner, as is usual among creatives that like to collaborate and exchange tips and whatnot, that might be fun. As in, you do something musical, then I'll attempt recreating that as fast or faster. And then the other way around, going back and forth.

As in, real-world projects, and going for a while like that, having a laugh and also having a finished piece of music at the end, seeing how conveniently different processes went along the way, and how instant and "extension of a thought process / extension of a creative vibe" the editing and recording etc. feels like. I'm well-versed both in dance styles and soundtrack works, and as I sort of mentioned, in addition to Reaper, Ableton Live is "the other extension" of me, as I've used it for twenty years. Stylistically, I think I'd be game :D

Online things easily get antagonizing and out of context and nitpicky and blabla, and having this mentality so prevalent is why I wouldn't even think (okay, I just did think it, but you know what I mean) doing something like a youtube thing out of it. But live, casually, it would be fun.

Aaand ghettosynth might be right, though. In the end, it's just important to acknowledge that people work intuitively and super fast in a multitude of environments, and at least when they are already proficient, they tend to have chosen the tools that gel well with them personally, and know how to use them to their advantage.

Or they semi-randomly got used to a certain specific set of tools which required them getting used to a certain specific set of workarounds...

Heeey by the way, for the people who use Reaper here, and are exploring the new v7, I'll just link a handful of interesting stuff here to elevate that vibe :D (I think some of this has been mentioned already, but still!)

Also, someone did kindly compile an updated list of available Reaper effects: https://www.keithhaydon.com/Reaper/JSFX2.pdf

[Edit: The Global Sampler thread title says it's "Alpha", but it's a mature and functional tool at this point. These days I keep it docked in a slim horizontal sliver at the top of the window at all times, and toggle it visible when I need it; a great addition to a hands-on sound design workflow, being able to just paint something that just occurred and dragging that bit into the project as audio, when prototyping stuff, experimenting in VCV, and things like that.]

Edit n: forgot the MK Slicer, which semi-recently had a new release. Works docked as well, and integrates quite beautifully. Does slicing, audio (rhythm/timing) quantizing, tempo mapping, slice order randomization, MIDI generation (can be used to generate drum triggers and rhythm patterns from audio takes, etc.)... and doesn't need the audio to be loaded as a separate sample into it like a typical non-ARA plugin sampler/slicer, works on the arrangement item level directly.

There are undoubtedly people like that, too! Using all sorts of software that doesn't quite suit their needs, or even being forced to use software like that as there are no alternatives (I've seen this quite a lot in totally non-music/audio-related contexts like administration/education/healthcare).

Then it's for sure nothing to attract the average KVR-crowd.

We are all lonesome single artists who never recorded live stuff or something else that's really handmade ... :hihi:
