My licence is up on 5 so its already been 14 months since I paid for an upgrade (in the sale, under £100) and if I wait until the beta is out it will probably be 18 months. If I skip 5.1 altogether (I easily could, still digging into 5, the upgrades are faster than the time I have to learn everything!) then it will probably be over 2 years until the 5.2 beta! That seem like good value to me...either way I will pick up a new upgrade plan licence next sale (BF approaches!) I like having it even if I don't cash it in just yet....

Money doesn't matter to me I have more than enough money I logged in because someone has surmised that people who moan about the cost of an upgrade usually want something for nothing of which is totally incorrect I can give a shit about myself I have money but I'm defending the people who can't afford to upgrade after spending much money on the actual DAW itself. The people with families with children the people out of work the people who have more outgoing is than me your statement is incorrect and is derogatory to the people who love music who love to make music but are limited by money due to circumstances. I am merely saying the people that want something for nothing will get it for nothing in certain quarters of the web it's free and in abundance and there's nothing but anybody can do to stop them getting it for nothing but don't lump your surmised something for nothing to the people that are struggling financially and that does not include me I logged in to tell you that you're wrong and that there are people in this forum who can't afford to upgrade bitwig even though they have forked out the full amount for studio bitwig studio because of financial commitments that does not make them wanting something for nothing because they have already thought out the full amount but you see you will always have an answer no matter what I say or no matter what anybody says you will always have an answer but there will be people reading my post who are struggling financially who would love to upgrade bitwig but can't but these people are not in your surmised bracket of wanting something for nothing they have commitments but they still love music and probably still make music. You put words in people's mouths you surmise you put yourself on a pedestal higher than anybody else that's fine you can stay out there there's only one way off at and that's down. The thing you dislike is that someone's actually challenged your warped view of musical finance. The people here who can't afford to upgrade bitwig won't say why won't they say because there's people like you who will shoot them down as soon as they post but you see most of my life is over I don't care anymore I really don't I've got the money to upgrade but I don't want to I would rather spend it on another DAW and upgrade it during a sale. It's just principle it's the type of people that would say it's just a cup of coffee but then again depends where you get the coffee don't it.

I've said my piece and no doubt I'll get inundated with more replies but hey feel free if it makes you feel better but there's people reading this on this forum that know exactly what I'm saying but they don't want to get embroiled in some petty retaliatory posts from you because life's too short but bitwig pricing is overpriced but I still love the DAW but I refuse to upgrade at the price it is but that doesn't mean to say I'm short of money it just means to say that I'll spend the money elsewhere. Don't assume things you don't know and I won't be back so that'll give you an opportunity to have the last word which will make you feel better there there !

You made your point clear. IMHO, more people will read your posts if you avoid those walls of text and add more punctuation marks.

"Money isn't an issue for me, but I'm speaking up for those who genuinely struggle financially. Your assumption that people who complain about upgrade costs just want handouts is misguided. Many in this forum love music but are constrained by financial commitments. It's unfair to label them as wanting something for nothing, especially when they've already invested in the product. I've chosen not to upgrade Bitwig, not because of finances but on principle. Pricing is subjective; what's trivial for some may not be for others. People have valid reasons to criticize Bitwig's pricing without being labeled or misjudged. Let's respect diverse perspectives without assumptions. I won't be returning to this conversation, but I hope my viewpoint resonates with some." - chatGPT's cut

The upgrade price is definitely too high because it's a flat rate. Releasing $169 USD / €169 EUR each year is not insignificant. Broken down, that's $14 USD / €14 EUR per month, that's the cost of a very cheap and basic mobile phone or landline sub. The new features and extensions are not always necessary for everyone. Only a fraction of music creators will ever need and use ALL features or new features in their routine. For each individual, only some of the new features are relevant and truly efficient for their work because they are only necessary if they are needed.
Nevertheless, I find the overall value of the DAW Bitwig, with all its included functions, features, and tools, worth every cent.
The creative aspect and the enjoyment that Bitwig provides are priceless on their own.
Its over for Bitwig--CUBASE WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree it would be expensive it you were required to pay it each year like a phone, but you are not. Unlike a phone Bitwig keeps working if you stop paying. Upgrading is not mandatory, often not necessary for a few iterations, it's a value proposition. Upgrade when it's good value to you, that's an individual choice, not a subscription.

Exactly! And if you don't have much money, you need to be wary of the choices you make. You can upgrade every 3 years for example and have crazy good value for money. You can't have your cake and eat it :ud:

Generally, it works better in forums if you speak for yourself and not for others.

Bitwig is not overpriced simply because someone cannot afford it.

I only buy Bitwig on sale. Since they started with the upgrade plan, it has worked out to about $10.50 (US) per month for me. As JH pointed out, that is less than Netflix or HBO Max.

If someone truly cannot afford it, they can upgrade every other year and then it's about $5.25 per month. They also have the choice to simply not upgrade and use Bitwig as is. They also have to choice not to buy it in the first place because the upgrade pricing is a known factor.

There are no victims here. If you want to crusade on behalf of poor people (a dubious motivation considering nobody asked you to), perhaps focus on the cost of healthcare or housing... you know, stuff that is essential.
