How well do the quad cortex captures replicate the dynamic response of the amp? Looking to get one as a portable rig.

I've had both the Quad Cortex and Kemper.
IMO, Quad Cortex Captures (especially those with Cab - not DI) sound/respond better than Kemper profiles.
You can run multiple Captures in a preset... so you can have an Amp/Cab and several drive/boost options.
Captures are IMO the standout feature of the Quad Cortex.

The only downside to the Quad Cortex is the slow pace of updates... and the unit not having all features hyped at launch.
Helix and Axe-FX have a wider array of effects... but the QC has enough to cover any common scenario.
If you're primarily getting the QC for Captures, you'll likely be very pleased.

I noticed a large amount of used Kempers for sale on Reverb in comparison to the QC.Jim Roseberry wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 12:06 pm I've had both the Quad Cortex and Kemper.

85 used vs 28 new. Is there a reason for this, Tonex?

Kemper has been out well over a decade. The Noodlist wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 4:37 pmI noticed a large amount of used Kempers for sale on Reverb in comparison to the QC.Jim Roseberry wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 12:06 pm I've had both the Quad Cortex and Kemper.

There are far more Kempers than QCs.
I think that's why you see more used Kempers for sale.

That'll explain that.Jim Roseberry wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 6:47 pm Kemper has been out well over a decade.

Are some Kemper owners jumping ship to QC, Axe FX3 or software?

I think some are... but many aren't. The updates the Kemper has planned should keep Kemper viable for a good while longer. Amazing considering the 10+ years it's been available. The Noodlist wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 7:05 pm That'll explain that.

Only way to really get a sense of all these options is to give them a try.
Everyone's preferences are different.
None of these devices are completely head/shoulders above the rest.
All the top-tier guitar processors are pretty good. One could gig with any of them.
I think the QC's Captures are a bit more accurate.
ToneX is even more accurate than the QC (very slightly).
QC Captures with mic'd cab have a great feel IMO.
Same with the ToneX Captures.
AxeFX-III is a great option.
I'm not crazy about the fan (louder than I prefer - not an issue live).
Not crazy about the form-factor for live. The FM9 would be a better live option.
Cliff's firmware updates have set the bar for product development/support.
Line-6 customer service is absolutely stellar.

Im getting an fm9 and possibly 2 fender fr12's that should hold me for guitar gear for a while. If the fuzz cleans up on my strat Ill be a happy camper if not then a fuzz pedal for my Hendrix fix is another must get plus I might order a 95q dunlop wah pedal as well. Ill need to add superior drummer soon after.
