This one looks exciting (to me). There was an EQ called Magpha that was all the rage awhile ago. I've used it but didn't end up with a license because I found out about it just as people were getting concerned it was abandonware. At the time it was still for sale. I stepped away. Although the EQ sounded really great. It always reminded me of another great abandonware EQ, Equilibrium, which I do own. Somehow these EQ's sound in a different league than other EQs in terms of imparting a pleasing audio quality.

Looks like Kush licensed it for re-engineering and release! $79 intro price.
Kush proudly announces q.632: an EQ plugin it didn’t design, using EQ dsp it didn’t develop.

q.632 is an updated, gently repackaged version of the beloved Magpha EQ, an obscure and defunct plugin whose unusual phase-modeled filters earned it a reputation for smoothness and fidelity that rival what comes out of $9,000 analog mastering EQ’s.

Spotting an opportunity to revive Magpha’s lovely tech, Kush reached out to John Flynn, the mastering engineer who developed it, and secured an exclusive license both to the Magpha plugin and its underlying EQ algorithms.

I cannot relate to this GUI. 😕

I own it and still use the original, this is really great though and free for registered users of the original. Great job ubk and crew. :tu:

Any idea how this works? I bought Magpha way back when it was released. Would love to keep using it in the Kush Audio form. Do we get an email or something?

EDIT: Apparently Kush will be in contact through email at some point. Guess I'll download the demo and hope it's runtime works long enough to get the plugin.

EDIT2: Hmm.. looking at the PD plots it seems that Kush has possibly implemented the last Magpha update in his code, thus it also contains the low frequency bug that was present in the final release of Magpha before it became abandoned. This is very unfortunate. I hope he can get it sorted to the version that actually works correctly.

?

It's just a simple 6 band eq, with hpf and lpf...

What's wrong with it?

Functionally for a master EQ, some mono/side could be nice, but the GUI seems pretty clear...

Post

Well now... it's quite objectively dark as f**k, and with a complete disregard of visual hierarchy.
The original at least wasn't that dark, and IMO way easier on the eye.
Sure it's a simple interface and a 6-band EQ, but I perfectly understand if someone doesn't like it.

Saying this as a big fan of Gregory Scott's work (plugins and music).

Anything KUSH do is really worth a try, I personally feel Greg's production is really sublime.
I totally recommend to all music lovers to check out his music YT channel :
